Abstract: The present invention relates to a selected amide of ?-hydroxybutyric acid, a process of manufacture and uses thereof. The invention also includes a pharmaceutical composition comprising an effective amount of the selected compound of the invention for use in preventing or treating drug addiction, especially alcohol misuse or dependency.

The two polymorphic forms, named polymorphic Form A and polymorphic Form B, can be used in the treatment of drug addiction and alcoholism and have very good stability. Methods for preparing the polymorphic forms are also described.
