  • Publication number: 20030210752
Abstract: A receiver includes a channel length determination unit to determine a channel length for use by a channel estimator. In at least one embodiment, an iterative process is used to find a channel length (or a combination of channel length and one or more other channel related parameters) that optimizes a channel estimation quality criterion. A time tracking method is also provided that uses an early metric, a center metric, and a late metric to determine an appropriate timing.

  • Publication number: 20030200087
Abstract: An improved template spotting technique may be implemented as part of text dependent speaker verification system to authenticate a user of a wireless communication device. This technique may be suitable for use in noisy environments and for wireless communication devices with limited processing power. Endpoints of a test utterance are identified by first computing local distances between test frames and a target template. Accumulated distances are then computed from the local distances. Endpoints of the utterance may be identified when one or more of the accumulated distances is below a predetermined threshold. Once endpoints of a test utterance are identified, a dynamic time warp (DTW) process may be used to determine whether the test utterance matches a training template. One embodiment of the present invention aligns multiple training templates to reduce the probability of failing to verify the identity of a speaker that should have been properly verified.

  • Publication number: 20030156601
Abstract: A device and method for communication of speech packets over a packet-switched network allows for a greater channel reallocation delay. Initial speech packets may be buffered during a channel reallocation delay and sent through an access medium when a channel is granted. A media access controller may transmit the buffered speech packets through the access medium at a rate exceeding a speech encoding rate. At the receiving user equipment, the initial speech packets are decoded and buffered. Speech signals representative of the initial speech packets may have a shortened time period to compensate at least in part for the channel reallocation delay. Decoded speech packets may be processed using a rate matching process at a rate which initially exceeds the speech encoding rate which may be gradually decreased to approximately the speech encoding rate. The rate matching may include dynamic time warping to substantially preserve attributes of the original speech.

  • Publication number: 20030142731
Abstract: A receiver and method for weight detection use received channel estimations and prior feedback information sent to a transmitter to estimate channel weights. The estimated channel weights may have been used by a base station to transmit diversity mode signals. In one embodiment, a trellis algorithm may be used to determine weights with no significant time-slot delay. The weights may be used to generate channel taps for use by a rake receiver in combining multipath components of received signals. In one embodiment, the receiver and method for weight detection may be suitable for use in closed loop diversity mode communication systems, including a Wideband Code Division Multiple Access (WCDMA) system.

  • Publication number: 20030112855
Abstract: A spread-spectrum receiver has a high-rate path to receive multi-rate channels and a low-rate path to receive fixed-rate channels. In a wideband code division multiple access (WCDMA) embodiment, the high-rate path despreads multi-rate physical channels having a variable spreading factor and the low-rate path despreads physical channels having a fixed spreading factor. The high-rate path may have high-rate rake fingers to despread multipath components of the multi-rate channels. Each multi-rate channel may have a different spreading code allowing for multicode reception. The high-rate path may also include a high-rate rake with finger engines implemented in hardware to multiply symbols with a channel estimation, and a combiner to combine the multipath components. The low-rate path may include low-rate fingers to despread multipath components of the fixed-rate channels and a processor to generate a channel estimation and coherently combine symbols from the low-rate fingers with the channel estimation.

  • Publication number: 20030109240
Abstract: A transmitter synthesizes a signal having a phase modulated component and an amplitude modulated component. Phase and amplitude reference signals are generated from phase and amplitude information extracted from an offset output and offset input signal. An origin-offset signal source generates a compensation signal which is combined with the input and output signals to generate the offset input and output signals.

  • Publication number: 20030095588
Abstract: A multi-user detector for use in a CDMA receiver system includes a channel tap interpolator to generate interpolated channel taps for users of interest. The interpolated channel taps occur at integer multiples of a chip period from a sampling reference point. The channel tap interpolation allows detection processing to proceed in the chip domain, rather than in the sample domain, thus reducing the complexity of the multi-user solution significantly. In at least one approach, a number of low dimensionality “virtual” users are defined based on the recursive property of the spreading sequences. Solutions may then be developed for the virtual users using conventional detection (e.g., MMSE) techniques.

  • Patent number: 6563951
Abstract: In a method for matching two images, each consisting of a plurality of pixels and having partially overlapping contents, the degree of correspondence between the contents of the images is determined for different displacement positions representing different overlappings of the images. More specifically, a plurality of numbers are determined for each one of a plurality of said displacement positions. Each number is formed with the aid of pixel values from both images and is used to simultaneously retrieve predefined overlap assessment values for at least two of said displacement positions. The overlap assessment values retrieved are subsequently used to determine the degree of correspondence between the images for the different displacement positions. The method is carried out with the aid of a computer and can be implemented as a computer program.
