Publication number: 20170333105Abstract: An ablation assembly includes a handle, a catheter assembly and a connector locking assembly. The catheter assembly includes: a catheter shaft, a balloon and a connector at the distal and proximal ends of the catheter shaft, and a delivery tube extending between there between. The connector includes a connector body secured to the proximal end and a plug secured to the delivery tube, the plug and delivery tube movable axially and rotationally. The handle includes an open portion receiving the plug and the connector body. The connector locking assembly includes: means for simultaneously automatically connecting the plug and the connector body to the handle to place the connector in a load state prior to use, and means for automatically releasing the connector body and thereafter the plug from the handle to place the connector in an eject state to permit the connector to be removed from the handle.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 12, 2017Publication date: November 23, 2017Applicant: C2 THERAPEUTICS, INC.Inventors: Gabriel F.W. Newell, Patrick P. Wu, Timothy Douglas Holland, Cesar A. Ico, Byron Liehwah Chun, Dennis Franklin Burke

Patent number: 9700364Abstract: A cryogenic ablation catheter includes a catheter shaft, a balloon and a connector respectively at the catheter shaft proximal and distal ends, a refrigerant delivery tube assembly including a refrigerant delivery tube rotatable within the catheter shaft lumen, and a refrigerant delivery element with an outlet located inside the balloon which directs refrigerant outwardly against the balloon at different rotary positions as it rotates. A cryogenic balloon ablation system includes the cryogenic ablation catheter, a catheter coupler mating with the connector, a motor including a rotatable hollow motor shaft, and a delivery line fluidly coupled to a cryogenic gas source for supplying cryogenic gas to the refrigerant delivery tube. At least one of the refrigerant delivery tube and the delivery line passes at least partway through the hollow motor shaft. The coupling tip of the connector and the refrigerant delivery tube rotate with the motor shaft.Type: GrantFiled: March 24, 2015Date of Patent: July 11, 2017Assignee: C2 Therapeutics, Inc.Inventors: Gabriel Francis Wilgus Newell, Timothy Douglas Holland, Cesar Abalos Ico, Patrick Peichen Wu, Richard Steven Williams

Publication number: 20160302841Abstract: A device for treating esophageal target tissue comprises a catheter, a balloon and a refrigerant delivery device. The catheter has a distal portion and a refrigerant delivery lumen. The balloon is mounted to and the refrigerant delivery device is coupled to the distal portion. The refrigerant delivery device comprises a chamber with the refrigerant delivery lumen opening into the chamber, a refrigerant delivery opening fluidly coupled to the balloon interior, and a distribution passageway fluidly coupling the chamber and the refrigerant delivery opening. A refrigerant is deliverable through the refrigerant delivery lumen, into the chamber, through the distribution passageway, through the refrigerant delivery opening and into the balloon interior so to place the balloon into an expanded, cooled state so that the balloon can press against and cool esophageal target tissue. The medical device may include means for sensing a leak in the balloon.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 6, 2015Publication date: October 20, 2016Applicant: C2 Therapeutics, Inc.Inventors: Richard S. Williams, Peter Garcia-Meza

Publication number: 20150313661Abstract: A focal ablation assembly, used with an endoscope comprising an endoscopic tube, comprises a cryogenic catheter, a balloon and a reinforcing element. The cryogenic catheter is placeable within the endoscopic tube channel and has a distal end placeable at the distal end of the endoscopic tube. The balloon is mountable to the catheter distal end and extends distally of both of the distal ends. The reinforcing element at least partially defines the shape of the balloon in the expanded state. The balloon defines a balloon volume when expanded and has a thermally conductive therapeutic region which provides effectively no thermal insulation. In some examples the focal ablation assembly comprises a delivery catheter extending along the channel with a distal portion fluidly coupled to the balloon interior, whereby refrigerant can be introduced into the balloon interior and towards the therapeutic region by the delivery catheter.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 10, 2015Publication date: November 5, 2015Applicant: C2 Therapeutics, Inc.Inventors: Patrick P.
