Abstract: A device for the preparation of pipe ends, prior to jointing them together using an inserted close-fitting spool and an external close-fitting sleeve, consists of a plain cylindrical mandrel (10) adapted to be firmly fixed centrally inboard of an end zone of the bore of a pipe (12) so as to project from the end of the pipe, a hydraulic cylinder (46) adapted to be removeably mounted co-axially on the projecting end of the mandrel, and a piston (48) in the cylinder slideable along the mandrel and adapted to carry an interchangeable annular tool, whereby the tool can be force fed axially along the mandrel into the pipe to modify the bore thereof.
