  • Patent number: 4211323
Abstract: A disposable diagnostic swab assembly which takes the form of an elongated tubular member having an internal chamber which is permanently closed at the inner end and is openable at the outer end by the removal of a cap. A culture medium containing breakable pouch is located within the internal chamber at the inner end. An elongated swab is attached to the cap with the tip of the swab being located directly adjacent the pouch. The pouch is to be breakable by applying localized pressure upon the tubular member in the area of the pouch which causes the culture medium to saturate the tip of the swab. A glass slide section may also be attached to the tubular member with access to the glass slide being permitted to facilitate usage thereof.

  • Patent number: 4196167
Abstract: The drug detection device which is composed of a pair of members interconnected together to form an internal enclosed chamber. An elongated swab having an absorbent tip is located within the internal enclosed chamber. One of the members of the housing has attached a pair of separate compartments which are interconnected by a frangible seal and further being interconnected to the internal chamber by a frangible seal. Within each of these compartments there is to be located a different substance and upon breaking of the frangible seal between the compartments, the substances within these compartments are to be intermixed. Upon the breaking of the frangible seal to the internal chamber, the tip of the swab will then become in contact with the intermixed substances. The other member of the housing has attached at its closed end a third compartment and within this third compartment is to be located a third substance.
