    Abstract: An electronic article surveillance system has transmitter and receiver antennas secured to the bottom of a floor mat to provide an interrogation zone above the mat and an electronic control unit operable to energize the transmitter antenna to provide an electromagnetic field in the interrogation zone and sense electric signals from the receiver antenna to produce an alarm indicating the presence of a tag in the interrogation zone.
