Abstract: A golf club head, preferably a putter head, comprising a replaceable face insert is disclosed herein. The golf club head comprises a body with face cavity and a secondary cavity in communication with, and disposed behind, the face cavity, and at least one opening extending through a top or sole portion into the secondary cavity. The replaceable face insert comprises a striking portion and a support structure extending from a rear surface of the striking portion. The support structure is received within the secondary cavity and the striking portion is received within the face cavity, and then a rod or bolt is inserted through the opening and through the support structure to reversibly secure the face insert to the body. A linear bearing may be disposed within the support structure to receive the rod or bolt.
Abstract: A resilient face insert for a golf club head, preferably a putter head, is disclosed herein. In particular, the face insert comprises a plurality of hinge features spaced from a striking surface to ensure consistent ball speed across the striking surface. At least a portion of each hinge feature extends parallel to the striking surface without making contact with the striking surface. In the preferred embodiment, each hinge feature comprises a tab portion that is spaced from the striking surface by a stem portion and that extends parallel to the striking surface. The hinge features may be co-molded with a polymeric backing material having a plurality of parallel grooves in order to further improve performance of the face insert.

Abstract: The disclosure is directed to a golf club head having an adjustable tension cable disposed proximate the face. The body has a face, a sole, and a return section, and defines a hollow interior. The cable extends between the return section and the sole within the hollow interior near the face to reduce stresses placed on the face during impact with a golf ball. The cable preferably forms a woven structure, with multiple connections between the return section and sole, and the tension in the cable is adjustable via a screw connected to one end of the cable that engages a threaded bore disposed near the hosel.
Abstract: A process for manufacturing a putter with a bi-material shaft is disclosed herein. The putter comprises a putter head, the bi-material shaft, a mass member and a grip. The bi-material shaft comprises a body with a tip end and a butt end. The body comprises a metal section extending from the tip end to a connection point, and a composite section extending from the butt end to the connection point. The mass member is positioned within an opening at the butt end of the shaft. Mass from the shaft is transferred to the club head and the mass member in the butt end of the shaft.
Abstract: A golf club head with a face component having a variable thickness and a coating on a rear surface of the face component that provides a flat surface to which a medallion can be affixed, and methods of manufacturing such golf club heads, are disclosed herein. The coating is made from a fill material comprising a polymer and a plurality of microscopic bubbles, which preferably constitute 5-70% of the volume of the fill material. The polymer material preferably is a polyurethane having a Poisson's ratio of 0.40-0.50.

Abstract: An golf club head with a structure that improves the sound and reduces stress placed on the face upon impact with a golf ball is disclosed herein. In particular, the golf club head is an iron with a face having a rear protrusion, also referred to as a piston, with both forward and rearward facing surfaces. The piston is at least partially received within a receptacle provided in the body of the golf club head. The receptacle also includes a pair of bumpers, one of which interacts with the piston to improve the sound of the face upon impact with a golf ball at speeds at which an average golfer would swing the club head, and the other of which reduces the stress placed on the face when the club makes impact with a golf ball at high speeds.

Abstract: A golf ball with a core comprising polybutadiene and graphene is disclosed herein. The golf ball has a single core comprising polybutadiene and graphene. Alternatively, the golf ball has a dual core with an inner core comprising polybutadiene and graphene. Alternatively, the golf ball has a dual core with an outer core comprising polybutadiene and graphene.
Abstract: A golf ball comprising a core comprising an inner core center and an outer core layer disposed over the inner core center. The inner core center has a deflection of greater than 0.210 inch under a load of 100 kilograms, and the entire the core has a deflection ranging from 0.130 inch to 0.105 inch under a load of 100 kilograms. A mantle layer is disposed over the core and a cover is disposed over the mantle.
Abstract: A golf ball with a coating disposed on a cover that is infused with graphene in an amount ranging from 0.01% to 5% based on a dry weight of the paint film is disclosed herein. The coating is preferably based on polyurethane chemistry where hydroxyl functional polymers are cured with polyisocyanate-based hardeners. The coating is preferably applied in a dipping process or a spraying process.
Abstract: A multiple-material golf club head with a resilient crown structure and an improved, graphene-infused coating is disclosed herein. The crown comprises a metal support structure that is attached to the body of the golf club head and supports a composite outer layer. The golf club head is also at least partially coated with a paint film that is infused with graphene particles.
