Abstract: The invention relates to a method and apparatus for coordinating a mobile communications device with a media broadcast. The invention comprises detecting on a mobile communications device a sub-audio signal transmitted in a media broadcast, receiving on the mobile communications device an event signal relating to an event in the media broadcast, wherein the event signal is provided with a time reference corresponding to the related event in the media broadcast, and executing on the mobile communications device content relating to the event in the media broadcast, wherein execution of the content is controlled according to the time reference corresponding to the event in the media broadcast and the sub-audio signal.

The system comprises a first transaction module arranged to manage transactions in respect of local items supplied within a retail environment; a data store arranged to store updatable data relating to remote items provided by a remote server; and a second transaction module arranged to access the updatable data to provide access to the remote items via the electronic transaction system.
