  • Patent number: 8186766
Abstract: A method is intended for manufacturing a bicycle spoked wheel. By inserting the nipples or barrels for the attachment of the spokes in the spoke attachment seats from the inside of the spoke attachment chamber instead of from the outside, after having inserted them in the chamber from a suitably sized opening, the rim of the bicycle wheel can be manufactured even without additional openings, still using conventional nipples or barrels.

  • Patent number: 4898064
Abstract: A pedal for racing bicycle comprises a pedal body carrying a toe clip at the front with a strap for retaining a cycling shoe and a transverse stop at the rear which is adapted to engage a recess formed in a cleat fitted to the sole of the shoe. The transverse stop is movable relative to the body of the pedal so as to enable the cleat to be released in use as a result of a backward and/or rotary force applied by the shoe above a threshold value.

  • Patent number: 4878884
Abstract: In a rear derailleur of the type including an articulated parallelogram joint, the axes of articulation of the two connecting rods of the articulated parallelogram to the upper body of the derailleur are inclined to the longitudinal plane of the bicycle in the position of mounting of the derailleur on the bicycle. These axes are also arranged with one outwardly of and higher than the other so that the plane containing them is also inclined to the axis of the rear wheel of the bicycle. It is possible to arrange for the lower body of the derailleur to be displaced when the chain is derailed, the chain transmission wheel being kept at a substantially constant distance from the sprocket which is engaged by the chain from time to time.

  • Patent number: 4878395
Abstract: A device for operating the gear change of a bicycle comprises a main body mounted rotatably on a support pin and provided with an operating lever. A member driven by the main body and whose rotation is prevented by friction coupling means is also mounted rotatably on the support pin. Interposed between the driven member and the main body are one-way engagement means for coupling the driven member to the main body for rotation only when the operating lever is rotated in the direction of return of the derailer spring. These one-way engagement means are controlled directly by the same operating lever, which is constituted by an element separate from the main body and articulated to this body.

  • Patent number: 4876913
Abstract: In a gear selector for controlling speed gears with a spring-loaded derailleur for sports and racing bicycles, there are associated with the gear selector operating lever (1), mounted rotatable against friction on a pivot (2), a snap-action mechanism controlling a plurality of lever positions with which a like number of positions of correct alignment of the speed gear with the various sprockets of the free wheel correspond, and means for activating and deactivating said mechanism on command. This snap-action mechanism comprises a notched member (4) with notches (18) in different positions, which is immediately interchangeable so as to adapt the gear selector to the control of any type of free wheel and of the most varied combinations of sprockets in free wheels, and at least one pawl for engaging the notches of said member and constructed integrally (5) with the spring which urges it into said engagement.

  • Patent number: 4869351
Abstract: A bicycle brake includes a pair of calipers which are provided with brake blocks and pivot about two parallel axes, and which are resiliently biassed towards a rest position and movable into an operative braking position by a flexible cable fixed within a through-hole in a member for operating the calipers and acting in a direction contained in a plane equidistant from the two pivoting axes of the calipers. The end part of the cable is pressed into the through-hole by a threaded element. To enable the cable to be mounted rapidly and easily, the operating member has a slot passing through it and opening into the through-hole, and is arranged so that the end part of the cable can be inserted into the hole through the slot by the movement of the cable in a direction peripendicular to its axis.

  • Patent number: 4856365
Abstract: A device to anchor a cyclist's shoe to the pedal of a bicycle is provided, including a plate fixed to the bottom of a cyclist's shoe. The plate has front and rear engageable portions. A bicycle pedal is rotatable about a spindle; and a clip member cooperatively engages the front portion of the plate and a pivotable hook lever to cooperatively engage the rear portion of the plate. The clip member is laterally pivotable about an axis perpendicular to the foot rest surface. Portions of the hook lever and the spindle are adapted to cooperatively engage each other in a manner which prevents the pedal from rotating when the hook lever is not in engagement with the plate.

  • Patent number: 4840605
Abstract: A rear derailleur for bicycle gears comprises an upper body which can be fixed to the bicycle frame, a lower body carrying a chain tensioning wheel for the bicycle chain and being movable relative to the upper body to bring the chain into selective engagement with a series of sprockets carried by the hub of the rear wheel of the bicycle, and a flexible cable for causing movement of the lower body. This lower body is carried by a control lever which is supported for rotation and axial sliding on a cylindrical guide element fixed to the upper body. Transmission device is interposed between the flexible cable and the control lever and is adapted simultaneously to impart rotation and axial sliding to the control lever, relative to the cylindrical guide element, as a result of operation of the flexible cable.

  • Patent number: 4819497
Abstract: A fast opening arrangement for shoes of bicycle brakes--of the type wherein control is obtained, by cable, through a control lever pivotally mounted on a body fixed to the bicycle handle bar--comprises a cylinder inserted across the control lever and axially moving through the same between two positions, which alternatively rest with their lateral surface against one or the other of the two sidewalls of the body on which said lever is pivotally mounted. These walls project to different extents and are cam profiled. In one of the two positions, the brake shoes are close to but spaced from the tire for normal braking; but in the other position, the shoes are spaced far enough apart to permit the wheel to be removed from between them.

The lower body is connected by an articulated parallelogram joint to an intermediate connecting element which is in turn mounted for sliding on guide member carried by the upper body. Connecting rods are provided for univocally correlating the movements of the intermediate element relative to the upper body with the movements of the lower body relative to the intermediate element. In this way, the resulting movement of the lower body relative to the upper body has both a component along the axis of the hub of the rear wheel of the bicycle, and a component radial to that axis.

  • Patent number: 4787266
Abstract: A toe clip for bicycle pedals, comprising a plate of flexible material adapted to be fixed to one side of a bicycle pedal body and extending forward and then being bent rearward to enclose the toe of a shoe. A strap is surrounded by an eyelet secured to the rearwardly bent portion of the plate. The eyelet is in the form of a loop having two free superposed ends, and a lever presses together the two ends of the eyelet with the end of rearwardly extending portion between them thereby to permit selective positioning and locking of the flexible plate and the eyelet in any of a plurality of selected adjusted positions relative to each other. The end of the eyelet and the rearwardly extending end of the flexible plate have mating projections and recesses disposed in a series extending in the direction of adjustment of the flexible plate and eyelet relative to each other, thereby to predetermine the positions of adjustment.
