Abstract: Apparatus which prevents particles fluidized in an indexing fluidized bed from passing under a moving flight comprising a device which directs the flow of the fluidizing medium so that the particles are directed away from the gap between the stationary grid and the moving flight. The invention also relates to a method of preventing the particles from passing under a moving flight by imparting a horizontal velocity component to the fluidizing medium so that the particles are urged away from the gap.
