Patents Assigned to Canada Wire and Cable Limited
  • Patent number: 4020443
Abstract: A variable temperature sensor for detecting and/or controlling the temperature of an object is disclosed. The variable temperature sensor comprises a thermallly conductive probe having one end adapted to contact the object the temperature of which is to be sensed, measured and/or controlled and its other end adapted to contact a heat sink so as to create a predetermined temperature profile between the two ends of the thermally conductive probe, and a temperature sensing device having a predetermined temperature sensing point or range contacting the thermally conductive probe at a point which is substantially at the temperature sensing point or within the temperature sensing range of the sensing device.

  • Patent number: 4006269
Abstract: A method for sensitizing a substrate of non-conductive material for the deposition thereon of a conductive film of copper or nickel comprises the steps of applying to the substrate a substance which can photochemically abstract a hydrogen atom from a hydrogen donor in the presence of a suitable solvent, and subsequently immersing the sensitized substrate in a solution containing certain metal ions such as copper, nickel or silver, and simultaneously exposing the sensitized substrate to radiation from an ultraviolet light source.

  • Patent number: 4002820
Abstract: A power cable comprising three insulated power conductors helically stranded together, at least two grounding conductors located in the outer interstices between the power conductors and an extensible ground check conductor also located in the interstices between the power conductors or at the center. The ground check conductor includes a plurality of metallic wire strands helically wound together in a short lay in the same direction of lay, and extensible non-metallic materials separating the metallic wire strands for substantially eliminating direct friction between the groups of metallic wire strands during flexing and twisting of the cable.

  • Patent number: 3989875
Abstract: A mica based electrical insulation for high temperature applications comprising reconstituted micaceous sheets impregnated with an impregnant of the family of poly (carborane siloxane) containing carborane moieties linked by siloxy groups at approximately 2-25% by weight of impregnant based on total weight of impregnated mica. The method for producing the mica based electrical insulation comprises the steps of solubilizing a poly (carborane siloxane) in a suitable solvent at a loading such as to produce a final insulation composite containing the desired weight of impregnant, placing a mica sheet of desired thickness on a suitable support, impregnating the supported mica sheet with the solution so as to achieve complete wetting, and curing the impregnated mica sheet for a time interval and at a temperature sufficient to effect cross-linking of the polymer.

  • Patent number: 3979910
Abstract: A closed circuit hydraulic control system for an hydraulic motor including a cylinder, a piston movable in such a cylinder, and a rod connected to one side of the piston, such cylinder having a blind end and a rod end through which the rod extends. A reversible circulating pump having two ports is provided for supplying fluid under pressure to the blind end and to the rod end respectively of the cylinder. A first tubing interconnects the blind end of the cylinder to one port of the reversible pump, whereas a second tubing interconnects the rod end of the cylinder to the other port of the reversible circulating pump. Means are provided to accommodate the volume of fluid displaced by the rod as the piston is moved toward the blind end of the cylinder.

  • Patent number: 3933611
Abstract: An apparatus and method are provided for continuous electrocoating of a conducting substrate with a coating of essentially non-conductive material. The invention is especially characterized by the provision of at least one electrode which converges towards the substrate in the direction of travel of the substrate. The electrode so converges in the direction of travel of the substrate that the rate of deposition of the non-conductive material onto the conducting substrate remains substantially constant throughout the electrocating operation.
