Patents Assigned to Canam-Manac Group
  • Patent number: 6807790
Abstract: The present invention allows the planner of a multi-storey building project to remove concrete from the critical path of the structure and envelope completion. The system of the present invention accommodates various floor depths, conforms to alternative stud depths and, acts as a compression/tension member for a building during and after construction. The invention relies upon the use of cold-formed metal that is shaped to provide a ring beam which will accommodate the various criteria. A basic shape configuration has been generated to provide the most efficient utilization of materials. Simplifying installation for the many variable conditions that occur in buildings is therefore provided by this modular design, wherein designers and contractors can easily select and use specialized components to meet all design and construction requirements.

  • Patent number: 6099768
Abstract: A modular building panel and a method for constructing the same provides a framework composed of structural members, typically formed of metal, and a backer board typically formed of a cementacious composite for receiving an exterior wall coating surface. The backer board and the framework are separated from, and insulated from, each other by a layer of foam that is applied in liquid form and that expands and cures into a solid form. Substantially no fasteners extend between the backer board and the metal framework to reduce conduction of heat therebetween. The foam serves as an adhesive to hold the backer board rigidly in place at a predetermined spacing from the framework and to anchor the backer board to the structural members. The structural members can comprise U-shaped and C-shaped channel beams for further rigidity and enhanced anchoring. Upon assembly, the backer board and the framework are overlaid upon each other, typically using spacers of a predetermined spacing thickness.

  • Patent number: 6058671
Abstract: A method and apparatus for providing for expansion and contraction in modular building panels provides a quickly insertable shim structure that can be placed between modular building panels adjacent bolt that secures the panels together. The shim is inserted into a gap formed between two adjacent members that are to be joined from a location external to the panels. The shim is U-shaped so that it passes over a bolt for securing the members together. When the bolt is tightened, the shim forms a permanent gap-forming structure. The adjacent members can be vertical members or horizontal members. This shim is inserted at a location on the adjacent members between interconnected transverse members so that the transverse members can expand into the gap with corresponding flexure about the shim of the adjacent members.
