Patent number: 12054225Abstract: A method and a controller unit for controlling motion of a watercraft with a hydrofoil) obtains information indicating shape of water surface in front of the hydrofoil. The controller unit further predicts wave acceleration of the watercraft using a neural network. Furthermore, the controller unit determines a target route and corresponding total acceleration of the watercraft under a set of constraints. The total acceleration is minimized when the watercraft travels according to the target route. The set of constraints includes: a first constraint that the hydrofoil stays within an interval relative to the water surface, and a second constraint relating to magnitude of acceleration derived from maximum AoA and the predicted wave acceleration. The controller unit calculates an AoA for the target route. Next, the controller unit sends a signal for adjusting the hydrofoil according to the AoA.Type: GrantFiled: May 5, 2022Date of Patent: August 6, 2024Assignee: CANDELA TECHNOLOGY ABInventor: Gustav Hasselskog

Publication number: 20230294797Abstract: The invention involves a hydrofoil vessel (1) comprising a hydrofoil assembly (4), and a hull assembly (2) presenting, when the vessel is floating at rest, a vertical symmetry plane (SP), wherein the hydrofoil assembly (4) comprises two struts (401) extending from the hull assembly (2) on opposite transverse sides of the symmetry plane (SP), mainly downwards when the vessel is floating at rest, or mainly partly away from the symmetry plane and partly downwards when the vessel is floating at rest, wherein the hydrofoil assembly (4) comprises two main foil portions (411) each extending from a respective one of the struts (401), at least partly towards the symmetry plane (SP), wherein each strut (401) comprises a strut foil (402) with a non-symmetrical cross-section, and with a pressure side (402P) facing at least partly towards the symmetry plane, and a suction side (402S) facing at least partly away from the symmetry plane (SP).Type: ApplicationFiled: July 5, 2021Publication date: September 21, 2023Applicant: Candela Technology ABInventor: Gustav Hasselskog

Publication number: 20230033965Abstract: A boat includes a hull (2), a hydrofoil (301, 601) mounted to the hull (2) by means of a hydrofoil holding arrangement (302) that has a strut (3021, 503). The boat also includes a strut adjustment arrangement (310, 510) arranged to retract the strut (3021, 503) from an extended position to a retracted position so as to move the hydrofoil (301, 601) from a deployed position to a restrained position, and/or to lock the strut in the extended position and/or in the retracted position. At least a portion of the strut has a hydrodynamic portion forming a leading edge (5036) and a blunt trailing edge (5037), where a sheltered portion (5101?, 5104, 5108) of the strut adjustment arrangement is positioned.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 14, 2022Publication date: February 2, 2023Applicant: Candela Technology ABInventor: Gustav Hasselskog
