  • Patent number: 9525830
Abstract: A method to generate a contact list may include receiving an identifier of a first communication device at a captioning system. The first communication device may configured to provide first audio data to a second communication device. The second communication device may be configured to receive first text data of the first audio data from the captioning system. The method may further include receiving and storing contact data from each of multiple communication devices at the captioning system. The method may further include selecting the contact data from the multiple communication devices that include the identifier of the first communication device as selected contact data and generating a contact list based on the selected contact data. The method may also include sending the contact list to the first communication device to provide the contact list as contacts for presentation on an electronic display of the first communication device.

  • Patent number: 9503569
Abstract: Methods and devices for enabling and disabling the updating of an adaptive filter for echo cancellation of a communication device are disclosed. An echo canceller may include an adaptive filter enabled to update responsive to a determination that a first condition is satisfied that there is no double talk detected on the communication device, and a determination that a second condition is satisfied based, at least in part, on a performance characteristic. The adaptive filter may be disabled from updating responsive to at least one of the first condition and the second condition not being satisfied. Described is disabling the adaptive filter from updating responsive to detecting a performance characteristic of the adaptive filter to fail to meet a condition indicating that the adaptive filter is diverging. The condition to be met may be independent of whether double-talk is determined to be present on the communication device.

  • Patent number: 9479650
Abstract: Methods and devices for updating filter coefficients during echo cancellation are disclosed. A communication device includes a processor configured to operate a background filter configured as an adaptive filter, operate a foreground filter configured as a fixed filter; and update the foreground filter with coefficients from the background filter responsive to monitoring a history of both a near-end signal energy and an estimated far-end signal energy for a pre-determined time window in which conditions of each of the near-end signal energy and the estimated far-end signal energy are satisfied. A related method includes monitoring a near-end signal energy, monitoring an estimated far-end signal energy, performing an echo cancellation, and transferring coefficients from an adaptive filter to a fixed filter responsive to a history of both the near-end signal energy and the estimated far-end signal energy satisfying conditions for a pre-determined time window.

  • Patent number: 9374536
Abstract: Apparatuses and methods are disclosed for providing captioning of a video communication session for a conversation between at least two users in which media data is communicated between at least two communication devices during a video communication session involving a video captioning service. The video captioning service provides text captions for the far-end audio of the video communication session, in which the user of the second communication device is associated with a hearing-capable user that is not authorized to receive text captions from the video communication service during the video communication session.

  • Patent number: 9336689
Abstract: Systems and methods related to providing error correction in a text caption are disclosed. A method may comprise displaying a text caption including one or more blocks of text on each of a first device and a second device remote from the first device. The method may also include generating another block of text and replacing a block of text of the text caption with the another block of text. Furthermore, the method may include displaying the text caption on the second device having the block of text of the first text caption replaced by the another block of text.

  • Patent number: 9197745
Abstract: Apparatuses and methods are disclosed for automatically connecting to a relay service and establish a captioning communication session during a call between a hearing-impaired user and a far-end user. The apparatus includes communication elements configured to receive captions from a relay service, and a processor configured to automatically connect to the relay service and establish a captioning communication session during a call responsive to a determination that a connection to the relay service failed during a time in which the hearing-impaired user desired captions to be enabled. A method includes determining captions are desired by the hearing-impaired user at a first time to be enabled for display to the communication device during a call, detecting a failed connection to the relay service at a second time, and automatically connecting with the relay service and establishing a new captioning communication session at a third time during the call.

  • Patent number: 9191789
Abstract: A communication system including a caption device and a mobile device configured to engage in communication with each other. The caption device is configured to receive a text signal originating at a relay service, the text signal corresponding to a far-end voice signal originating at a far-end device. The caption device is configured to display text corresponding to the text signal on a display. The relay service is configured to receive the far-end voice signal, and transmit the text signal to the caption device. The mobile device is configured to receive the far-end voice signal, and transmit the far-end voice signal to the relay service. A method of facilitating a captioned conversation between a far-end user and a near-end user having a caption device includes establishing communication between a caption device and a mobile device, and between the caption device and a relay service.
