  • Patent number: 6729488
Abstract: A method for manufacturing a tamper-indicating closure having a plurality of resilient flexible projections bent upwardly and radially inwardly at a predetermined radius of curvature. The first step in the method includes providing a mold assembly comprising a female mold portion for forming the outer surface of the closure and a male mold portion for forming the closure's inner surface and its plurality of projections. The male and female mold portions are arranged for relative movement toward and away from each other between a mold open position and a mold closed position. When in the mold closed position, the male and female mold portions define a mold cavity in which the tamper-indicating closure is molded.

  • Patent number: 5321341
Abstract: A drive module of a machine having a turret adjacent the upper end and a motor adjacent the lower end. The turret is driven by the motor to move between different stations of the machine by the controlled rotation of the turret about an axis of rotation. The motor includes an upwardly directed output shaft which is in generally axial alignment with the axis of rotation of the turret. An outer housing is disposed between the turret and motor, and the output shaft of the motor is connected to an inner housing disposed for rotation within the outer housing. An elongate shaft extends axially through the inner housing and is connected with the turret to transmit movement of the shaft to the turret. A force transmitting member is connected to the inner housing and to the elongate shaft for transmitting rotational movement of the inner housing to the elongate shaft, and for permitting axial movement of the elongate shaft relative to the force transmitting member and the inner housing.

  • Patent number: 5261810
Abstract: A machine including a system for moving one member into engagement with another and to apply a high clamping force thereto. The system includes an electrically operated pump and an associated cylinder assembly. The cylinder assembly includes a housing having first and second chambers, each having actuating fluid therein. A piston is located within the housing and is coupled to one member. A ballscrew and associated nut are located within the housing coupled to the piston and arranged to move the piston in either of two opposite directions under power from an externally located electrical servomotor. When the piston is moved in one direction it carries the associated member into engagement with the other member and also causes actuating fluid to flow from the second chamber into the first chamber. The pump is arranged to provide additional actuating fluid to the first chamber for applying a clamping force directly to the piston, and not to the ball screw and nut.

  • Patent number: 4844284
Abstract: A child-resistant package includes a tray with a compartment therein for receiving articles to be packaged, and a cover member slideably received on the tray and movable relative to the tray between opened and closed positions. The cover member is a flexible member having a top wall and peripheral sidewalls. The peripheral sidewalls of the cover member overlie peripheral sidewalls of the tray and latching members on the sidewalls of the cover member and tray cooperate to retain the cover member in a closed position relative to the tray. The latching members are released by applying an inward pressure to the top wall of the cover member, to thereby bias the sidewalls of the cover member outwardly relative to the sidewalls of the tray. An abutment member on the tray prevents such inward deflection of the top wall of the cover member in the event that a child bites down on the package in the forward region thereof.

  • Patent number: 4726483
Abstract: A unitary tamper-evident closure includes an inner threaded cap member (16) interconnected by circumferentially spaced-apart, radially extending break-away tabs (18) to an outer skirt (14) that is concentric with the inner cap member (16). The outer skirt includes a plurality of circumferentially spaced-apart first abutment members (20) that cooperate with circumferentially spaced-apart abutment members (22) on the inner cap member to transmit a driving force from the outer skirt to the inner cap member when the closure is being rotated onto the threaded neck (24) of a container (10). The first abutment members (20) also cooperate with the abutment members (22) for imparting axially oriented forces to the inner cap member (16) and outer skirt (14) in opposite directions when the closure initially is unthreaded from the neck (24).

  • Patent number: 4726484
Abstract: A package including a unique container adapted to cooperate with a closure for establishing a seal wherein the container includes a lower body section for receiving a material therein, and an upper, elongate finish joined to the body section. The finish includes an outer peripheral surface, and an inner peripheral surface defining a passageway communicating the finish with the interior of the lower body section of the container. The upper region of the finish has a stepped configuration in either one or both of the inner and outer peripheral surfaces thereof, and each stepped configuration includes a generally vertically oriented, circumferentially continuous surface segment extending for only a part of the elongate extent of the finish, and a horizontal, upwardly facing ledge section joined at a junction to the inwardly facing surface segment.

  • Patent number: 4712699
Abstract: A package includes a container having an upper finish with inner and outer surfaces. The outer surface includes threads adjacent the top of the finish, and the inner surface includes a lower sealing section located solely in a section of the finish spaced downwardly from the upper margin of said finish. A closure for the container includes an inner valve having an outer sealing surface for frictionally engaging only the lower sealing section of the inner finish surface to provide a leak-proof seal for the package.

  • Patent number: 4547332
Abstract: The method of forming a tamper-evident closure having a threaded cap and a tamper-evident ring removably connected to each other by break-away tabs. The method includes the steps of molding the threaded cap and tamper-evident ring as an integral unit in a side-by-side relationship to each other and with the break-away tabs integrally connecting them. A retaining lug is also molded on the ring and has a substantially inwardly directed surface. An outwardly directed shelf and cam means are also molded on the cap. After the molding operation, the integrally molded part is removed from its mold and the tamper-evident ring and the threaded cap are moved relative to each other with the break-away tabs acting as a hinge to enable the cap and tamper-evident ring to be brought into substantial vertical alignment with each other while the inwardly directed surface of the retaining lug is snapped over the shelf to hold the cap and ring in alignment.

  • Patent number: 4516697
Abstract: The present invention provides a hand dispenser for a liquid product that includes a resilient closed container mounted upon a base. The container, which has a discharge port connected to a dispensing orifice for the liquid product, is movable between a first position, which closes the discharge port and makes the dispenser adapted for traveling, shipment, and the like. The container also has a second position, which opens the discharge port and places the dispenser in the dispensing mode. The dispenser, when in the dispensing mode, is manually operated by squeezing the container, which dispenses a portion of the liquid product; upon return of the resilient container to its original shape, the level of the liquid drops, and a lesser pressure is created in the air pocket over the liquid product, thus causing atmospheric air to press back any movement of liquid product toward the dispensing orifice.

  • Patent number: 4489843
Abstract: Tamper-evident closures include a threaded cap and a tamper-evident ring removably connected to each other by break-away tabs adapted to break when the cap is rotated in a direction to remove it from a cooperating container. The cap and ring have cooperating surfaces for transmitting closing rotational movement of the cap to the ring to thereby rotate the cap and ring together during closing of the container to thereby prevent separation of the cap from the ring at the break-away tabs. The ring further includes at least one locking surface adapted to engage a corresponding surface on a container to prevent the ring from rotating in the opening direction of rotation, whereby rotation of the closure to open it will cause relative movement between the cap and ring to sever the break-away tabs. A method of molding the cap, tamper-evident ring and break-away tabs as a single member also constitutes a part of the invention, as well as the particular container constructions adapted to cooperate with the closures.
