  • Patent number: 8103461
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for determining the temporal position of a wave packet (31) in a flow measuring apparatus, and to a flow measuring apparatus. The method includes the sampling of the wave packet at a plurality of points in time, wherein a measured value is created at each point in time. Subsequently, a sum of products (43, 54, 55, 63, 64) is calculated, wherein each product is calculated for a determined point in time from a plurality of points in time and each product is the product of a value of a compare function (44, 53, 56, 61, 62) at the determined point in time and the measured value at the determined point in time. Finally, the temporal position of the wave packet is calculated from the sum of products.

  • Publication number: 20120012112
Abstract: A respiratory therapy device including a housing and an interrupter valve assembly. The housing is sized for handling by a patient and defines a patient breathing passage extending from a patient end and through which a patient inhales and exhales air. The interrupter valve assembly is carried by the housing and includes a control port, a valve body, and a drive mechanism. Expiratory airflow is released from the patient breathing passage through the control port. The valve body is sized to at least partially obstruct fluid flow through the control port. The drive mechanism moves the valve body relative to the control port in response to the expiratory airflow such that the valve body repeatedly transitions between a position of maximum obstruction and a position of minimum obstruction relative to the control port to create an oscillatory positive expiratory pressure effect.

  • Publication number: 20120004624
Abstract: A device for holding an IV tube in a pumping apparatus and for selectively occluding the tube when the door of the pumping apparatus is opened, to prevent free flow of fluid in the tube. A flange provided on a sliding clamp is designed to prevent inadvertent finger slippage causing pushing of a tab positioned in the sliding direction from the flange, resulting in undesirable fluid leakage. The flange is made slip-resistant using a textured surface, having a concave shape, or having an angled top portion to prevent finger slippage or having a concave setback to guide a finger when pushing the sliding clamp.

  • Patent number: 8088106
Abstract: An intravenous fluid pump (IV) contains a disposable part including a fluid chamber having a resilient top membrane and a non-disposable part including a piston abutting a resilient membrane and a vacuum chamber fitted on top of the resilient top membrane. An external pump is used to create vacuum in the vacuum chamber, resulting in the resilient top membrane being held taut. The flow rate through the pump is relatively independent of changes in the pressure of IV fluid on the upstream and the downstream due to changes in the relative elevation of the fluid reservoir and the patient with respect to the fluid pump.

  • Patent number: 8087906
Abstract: A pump having a disposable fluid contacting portion which defines a fluid inlet and outlet and a fluid path there between. The pump includes a drive portion configured to engage the disposable portion to cause fluid to be moved from the fluid inlet to the fluid outlet. The disposable portion is configured to be selectively coupled to the drive portion. The disposable portion includes a driven membrane which forms a portion of the fluid path, and the drive portion includes a drive membrane. The two membranes are vacuum coupled to each other, whereby movement of the drive membrane causes the driven membrane to move, causing fluid to be pumped through the disposable portion. The pump has particular utility in the medical field for moving fluid from a source to a patient. The pump may include features such as an air-trap, bubble detection, fluid flow controls, and pressure detection.

  • Patent number: 8082112
Abstract: The concentration of air or other agents in a fluid delivery line is determined by monitoring agent signals and processing those agent signals along with information regarding the age of each agent signal. The processor determines a primary agent concentration value based on the received agent signal values, with the primary agent concentration value determined by giving greater weight to more recent agent signal values. Where the primary agent concentration value exceeds a primary threshold value, an alarm signal may be activated. The processor also may determine a secondary agent concentration value, which may be determined from the actual agent signal values instead of the weighted agent signal values. Where the secondary agent concentration value exceeds a secondary threshold value, an alarm signal may be activated.
