  • Publication number: 20040198965
Abstract: The invention relates to procedures for the manufacturing of D-galactose and D-galactose containing compositions. More specifically, the invention provides a method for isolating D-galactose from legume material, which method comprises subjecting a legume composition containing non-homologuous soluble polysaccharide, commonly referred to as oligosaccharide, to one or more treatments, resulting in a preparation comprising at least 30% oligosaccharides, and subsequent hydrolysis of the oligosaccharides in this preparation into mainly monosaccharides.

  • Publication number: 20020086097
Abstract: The invention relates to a method of removing the fibrous shells from cereal grains. This method according to the invention comprises a pretreatment step, wherein the moisture content of the cereal grains is increased, e.g. in the case of corn grains from 16 to more than 20% by weight, followed by the step of exposure of the pretreated grains to a thermal shock by means of a cryogenic medium and thereafter mechanical treatment step thereof.

  • Patent number: 6261454
Abstract: Device for washing gluten, provided with at least one drum screen rotatably supported on a corrosion-resistant shaft, and equipped with means for supplying and discharging washing water and also with means for supplying the material to be treated at the one drum end and removing the treated gluten at the other drum end, at least two sets of spoke-type elements which are made of corrosion-resistant material and which support the circumferential wall of the drum screen being provided on the drum shaft at points disposed at a distance from one another in the longitudinal direction, which sets are each mounted, when viewed in the circumferential direction, on a bush which is made up of at least two parts made of corrosion-resistant material and attached to one another by flanges and which is to be firmly clamped to the shaft, the shaft being made of steel which is not corrosion-resistant and which has a high modulus of elasticity, and lining sleeves made of corrosion-resistant material being provided around the s

  • Patent number: 5987775
Abstract: Acording to the invention, the size reduction of a wet mass of vital gluten is carried out while said mass is in a brittle state, as a result of which, on the one hand, the vitality is preserved and, on the other hand, savings in energy for the subsequent drying process are achieved. Said brittle state can be achieved by the mass being cooled to a temperature of -75.degree. C. or less. Also described is an apparatus for implementing such a method, and a combination thereof with a drier.

  • Patent number: 5100679
Abstract: A process and composition thereof for making a proteinaceous product which comprises preparing an aqueous slurry of soy protein; treating the slurry by adjusting the pH to about 3.5 to about 6 and adding a viscosity reducing agent selected from the group consisting of a proteolytic enzyme and carbohydrase enzyme and an antioxidant, or mixtures thereof to form a pretreated slurry; heating the pretreated slurry, to a temperature not greater than 155.degree. C. such that the pretreated slurry does not contain a substantial amount of proteinaceous antinutritional factors and antigenicity factors; treating the pretreated slurry with a hydrolyzing agent from a source of alpha-galactosidase; and drying the proteinaceous material to form a soy product.
