  • Patent number: 4461367
Abstract: A drive train for a steerable drive wheel of a vehicle includes a spur gear stage and a bevel gear stage in a drive train housing which is supported for pivotal movement about a vertical axis. The drive wheel is driven through a horizontal axis from a vertically arranged motor. The housing is divided so that the axle-base change of the spur gear stage which is necessary when changing the drive wheel width requires different parts only for the part of the drive train housing which surrounds the spur gears. The remaining part of the drive train housing, which contains the bevel gear stage, is always the same. A slewing ring can be integral with the housing part which surrounds the spur gears. Furthermore, an opening for supplying or discharging air to or from the motor chamber can be provided.

  • Patent number: 4359301
Abstract: A machine for precision working, for example shaving, of the tooth flanks of a toothed workpiece supported rotatably on a machine frame. A tool carrier carries a multi-toothed tool, for example a shaving cutter, and is supported substantially above the workpiece for rotative adjustment of the crossing of the axes of the workpiece and tool, about an axis perpendicular to the workpiece axis. The tool carrier is guided movably in a guide carrier and is driven for longitudinal feeding of the tool. The guide carrier is suspended swingably about a horizontal axis for spherical or conical tooth working. The guide carrier is supported pendantly from a swivel plate which is swingable and lockable about an axis perpendicular to the workpiece axis for adjusting the feed direction. The tool carrier is guided by a guide arm which is adjustable in its inclination and is securable by a pivot member on the swivel plate.

  • Patent number: 4354846
Abstract: A nonsteerable drive mechanism for a watercraft which includes an upper part arranged within the watercraft and has a drive motor with a downwardly directed driving shaft. A lower part is arranged outside of the hull of the watercraft and has an angled gear arrangement, the driven shaft of which extends horizontally below the waterline in the lower part and has a propeller fixedly secured to its free end. The upper part is resiliently mounted to a base plate and the lower part, independently therefrom, is rigidly secured to the base plate. A fixed closure member closes off an opening through the hull and a part of the base plate encircling the opening of the watercraft, which closure member is sealingly penetrated through by a shaft connection connected to the angled gear arrangement. The power transmission from the upper part to the lower part takes place through an elastic coupling connecting the driving shaft to the shaft connection.

  • Patent number: 4334810
Abstract: In an apparatus for the cutting, deburring or breaking of the side tooth edges of gears with one or two tools which are located on the side of a guide gear and which machine the aforesaid tooth edges. The guide gear meshes with the workpiece, and, in one embodiment, is constructed as a measuring gear. Prior to the actual machining operation, the distance between the axes of the pretoothed workpiece and the measuring gear is measured independently and is made visible, if desired, on an indicating device. In order to avoid incorrect measurement results due to burrs existing on the workpiece, the guide gear can, if desired, have recesses into which extend the burrs.

  • Patent number: 4325589
Abstract: A multi-surface friction bearing construction for a machine part, for example a planet gear of a planetary gear system, which rotates on a stationary pin or the like, the rotating machine part having a loading direction which is stationary relative to the pin. Several bearing surfaces on the circumference of the stationary pin are formed by pitch circles each having a cylindrical surface. The rotating machine part has a circular cylindrical bore. The radii of the cylindrical surfaces each differ from the radius of the cylindrical bore of the rotating part and form points of intersection with the radii of adjacent cylindrical surfaces. The stationary pin also has axially extending grooves in the surface thereof. The rotating part at least in the carrying area of its circular cylindrical bore is of a material having good sliding characteristics and a higher heat expansion coefficient than that of the other portions of the rotating part.

  • Patent number: 4295834
Abstract: A drive mechanism for a watercraft having a surface propeller rotatingly driven by a motor arranged inboard of the watercraft through shafting which extends through an opening in a transom plate on the watercraft. The shafting includes a propeller shaft which is rotatably supported in a support arm which is mounted externally of the watercraft and on the aforesaid transom plate. The support arm is of a unitary construction and has appropriate openings therein to rotatably support the propeller shaft. Thrust bearings are provided on the support arm to absorb the thrust forces generated by the propeller. Due to the unitary construction of the support arm, the thrust forces generated by the propeller are transmitted only through rigid parts onto a flange plate on the support arm which in turn is fixedly secured to the transom plate.

  • Patent number: 4287973
Abstract: A friction clutch including interleaved compressible friction plates or overlapping conical rings and selectively operable structure effecting engagement thereof. One aspect of the invention relates to the structure for utilizing torque generated between the parts to be clutched for providing the compression force to be applied to the plates or the cone rings. Roller and ramp structure is provided between driving and driven parts responding to torque initially applied to the driving member for generating an axial force which is then applied to the clutch pack compressing structure. The roller has an elongated structure which will permit it to first roll about an axis perpendicular to the axis of rotation of the friction clutch and subsequently slide along its axial length. This structure will prevent or at least considerably reduce the power surges following a complete clutching operation.

  • Patent number: 4287659
Abstract: A method and apparatus for effecting an automated exchange of a tool in hobbing machines. At least a pair of gripping devices are mounted on a shaft for relative sliding movement therealong and for selective locking engagement with the shaft so that a rotation of the shaft will effect a rotary movement of a selected one of the gripping devices. The rotary movement of the selected gripping device is between a storage position and a working position. The gripping device is capable of holding a tool which is to be exchanged for a worn out tool. The other gripping device is generally empty and is first moved into the working position to extract the worn out tool from the milling spindle. Thereafter, the gripping devices are shifted to bring the appropriate device having a new tool therein into a position so that it can be rotated with the shaft to bring the new tool into the working position and inserted onto the milling spindle.

  • Patent number: 4278027
Abstract: A double axle drive for railway trucks of rail vehicles. The axis of rotation of the drive motor extends parallel to the longitudinal axis of the vehicle and extends between the wheel-set axles. The drive motor drives the wheel sets through a bevel gear arrangement. Each bevel gear arrangement has, on the driven side thereof, a hollow shaft which encircles the respective wheel-set axle. The hollow shaft is connected at its two ends through an elastic coupling to the wheel-set axles. The entire drive system is supported on the two axles through four couplings. Each of the four couplings is composed of rotation-symmetrical members, one being connected to the hollow shaft and the other to the axle, and an interconnecting flexible joint sleeve circumferentially spaced around the periphery of the two coupling halves.

  • Patent number: 4241817
Abstract: An apparatus and a method for controlling the braking operation of a machine having a large moment of inertia. The machine is driven by a motor through a coupling device. The control circuitry initiates first an uncoupling of the coupling device followed by a braking of the input side of the coupling device. Thereafter, and after the input side of the coupling has come to a stop, the coupling device is reactivated to couple the output side to the input side. Since the input side is blocked, this will effectively bring the machine to a halt.
