Patent number: 7100218Abstract: A lifting lever (10) for a cistern flush valve. The lever includes a first end (14) adapted for operative engagement with the cistern flush valve, a second end (18) adapted for operative engagement with a flush actuation button (24) and a pivot mounting (28) between the first (14) and second (18) ends. The second end (18) has first and second engagement regions (32, 34) which are respectively closer and farther to the pivot mounting (28). Initial movement of the button (24) causes it to engage the second engagement region (34) and pivot the lever (10) through a first predetermined range of movement whereafter further movement of the button (24) in the same direction causes it to engage the first engagement region (32) and further pivot the lever (10).Type: GrantFiled: August 28, 2003Date of Patent: September 5, 2006Assignee: Caroma Industries LimitedInventors: Colin William Wooldridge, Sam Robertson England

Patent number: 6186473Abstract: A tap has a hollow body (6) having an interior threaded portion (18) and (9). A manually turnable spindle (7) having an exterior threaded portion (19) is threadably engaged with the interior treaded portion (18) to advance and retract to spindle (7) relative to the tap body (6) to respectively close and open the tap. A seal (28) seals the spindle (7) relative to the hollow body (6). A locking mechanism including mutual abutent portions (27, 13) on the body (16) and spindle (7) to limit the retraction of the spindle (7). The relative lengths of the threaded portions (18, 19) and the relative locations of the mutual abutment portions (27, 13) are selected so that continued turning of the spindle (7) in the retraction direction disengages the threaded engagement prior to abutment of the mutual abutment portions (27, 13).Type: GrantFiled: September 24, 1999Date of Patent: February 13, 2001Assignee: Caroma Industries LimitedInventor: Ian Allan Miller

Patent number: 6095494Abstract: A tap body (1) comprising a plastic shroud (6), a substantially plastics tap spindle (7), and a locking collar (12). The body (1) has an inner threaded portion (18) and the spindle (7) is threadably received in the inner threaded portion (18) and rotatably reciprocable in tap opening and closing directions. The collar (12) engages with the shroud (6) to limit the tap opening rotation of the spindle (7). The insert (18) may be plastic and integral with shroud (6): (see FIG. 6). Shroud (6) may be integral with tap seat, inlet and outlet spigot (see FIGS. 7-9).Type: GrantFiled: May 18, 1999Date of Patent: August 1, 2000Assignee: Caroma Industries LimitedInventor: John Joseph Eagle

Patent number: 5933879Abstract: Operating buttons (2, 3; 102, 103; and 202, 203) for a dual flush cistern or flush tank include different operating surface area of each button presented to the user and provide an indication as to which button provides the reduced flush and which button provides the full flush. A hinge and latch assembly is used to fabricate such buttons (2, 3) by folding from a moulded form into an operational form.Type: GrantFiled: January 6, 1997Date of Patent: August 10, 1999Assignee: Caroma Industries LimitedInventors: Colin William Wooldridge, Terry Hall

Patent number: 5742951Abstract: An interlock mechanism (6-9, 41-47) for a cistern or flush tank (1) has an underwater flush valve (3). The interlock mechanism is linked with the float arm (7, 57) of an inlet valve (5, 50). The interlock mechanism latches the float arm in its raised position in the event of a leaky flush valve (3). Thus although a single cistern volume is lost there is no further loss. The next time a flush actuator (10) is operated the interlock mechanism in unlatched allowing the cistern to re-fill. The rising water re-sets the interlock latch mechanism.Type: GrantFiled: November 26, 1996Date of Patent: April 28, 1998Assignee: Caroma Industries LimitedInventors: Sonny Rene Wright, Peter Ross Dunstan, Luke Daniel Streeter

Patent number: 5551466Abstract: The present invention discloses a valve which utilises an imbalance of flow induced pressure forces to keep the valve open or closed. The valve has an interior cavity (15) into which an opposite and aligned inlet (12) and outlet (13) open. A bulbous body (16) is located within the cavity and is reciprocally mounted on a spindle (17) which passes through the outlet. Movement of the body increases the flow area at one end of the body and decreases the flow area at the other end of the body. In accordance with Bernoulli's theory this changes the pressures acting on the body (16) giving rise to a net force on the body. A cistern inlet valve (111,211) and cistern (19) are also disclosed.Type: GrantFiled: September 15, 1994Date of Patent: September 3, 1996Assignee: Caroma Industries LimitedInventor: Timothy De Pieri

Patent number: 5502846Abstract: The present invention discloses an operating mechanism for a cistern (1) or flush tank which is able to be used for a wide variety of cisterns, irrespective of their volume to depth profile. The preferred mechanism takes the form of a generally cup-shaped weir (22) which surrounds the flush valve (18) and from which a support frame (7) extends. The height of the rim of the weir is able to be selected or adjusted, for example by the use of a number of rupturable panels (24) located in the walls of the weir (22). A mechanism (26,27) to adjust for height variations between the flush actuators (14) and the flush operating mechanism (15) is also disclosed.Type: GrantFiled: June 30, 1994Date of Patent: April 2, 1996Assignee: Caroma Industries LimitedInventors: David Chelchowski, Colin W. Wooldridge

Patent number: 5280803Abstract: An hydraulically assisted inlet valve is disclosed having a by-pass passage (32) which is permanently open. Preferably the valve has a valve body (13) reciprocally mounted in the inlet (4) and carried by a diaphragm (23). The by-pass passage preferably extends through the valve body (13) to apply inlet pressure to one side of the diaphragm.Type: GrantFiled: August 9, 1991Date of Patent: January 25, 1994Assignee: Caroma Industries LimitedInventors: David B. Swift, David Chelchowski

Patent number: 5273255Abstract: A valve for use with a fluid tap is disclosed having a valve body (1), a handle spindle (3) which is termed to open and close a valve closure member (15). A valve carrier (8) is slidably mounted within the valve body (1) and includes an aperture (9) which receives a shaft (16) of the valve closure member (15). At least one of the handle spindle (3) and/or the valve carrier (8) is provided with a cammed surface (6,12) such that rotation of the handle spindle (3) through only fraction of a turn results in substantial longitudinal movement of the valve carrier (8), and subsequently, the valve closure member (15), relative to the valve body (1).Type: GrantFiled: October 1, 1991Date of Patent: December 28, 1993Assignee: Caroma Industries LimitedInventors: Branko Klicek, Glenn J. Houston
