The processor detects an actual outline, which indicates an actual shape of an outer periphery of the nail, based on an image obtained by imaging the nail of the object mounted on the object mounting portion; creates an interpolation outline with respect to the actual outline other than a root portion of the nail, from the image, wherein the interpolation outline is an outline in which the actual outline is interpolated to eliminate a concavity in cases where the actual outline other than the root portion of the nail has the concavity; and determines whether or not the nail has a damaged portion on the basis of a comparison of the interpolation outline with the actual outline.
