Abstract: An industrial fluid additive composition comprises one or more sequestering agents one or more compounds of formula (A): (A) wherein R1 and R2 are independently selected from substituted hydrocarbyl moieties containing from 1 to 10 carbon atoms or unsubstituted hydrocarbyl moieties containing from 1 to 10 carbon atoms.
Abstract: This disclosure relates generally to metalworking fluids. This disclosure relates more particularly to water-soluble metalworking fluids that include high viscosity polymers, and that can be used in metal cold rolling operations.
Abstract: A method for removing aromatic compounds from a hydrocarbon fluid comprises contacting the hydrocarbon fluid with a solid-phase polymeric material. The solid-phase polymeric material comprises a cross-linked polymer which contains aromatic groups. The method may be used to prevent the build-up of sludge and soot in a lubricant system in an internal combustion engine. A polymer bead comprising a solid-phase polymeric material is also provided.

Abstract: The present invention provides a lubricant composition comprising a base oil of lubricating viscosity, wherein the base oil comprises an ether base stock of formula (A), where: Ra and Rb are aliphatic hydrocarbyl groups and may be the same or different; the lubricant composition further comprising at least one aminic anti-oxidant and at least one phenolic anti-oxidant. In some embodiments, the ether base stock has the formula (1), where: R1 R2, R3, R4, R5 and R6 are as defined herein. The lubricant composition may be used for lubricating a surface in an internal combustion engine as well as for improving the fuel economy performance and/or piston cleanliness performance of an engine and/or a vehicle, such as an automotive vehicle associated with an internal combustion engine.

Abstract: A method for assessing the condition of an oil using a portable computer coupled to a camera comprises: separating wear particles from a sample of the oil; capturing an image of the separated wear particles using the camera; and analysing the image and generating information about the condition of the oil using the portable computer. The method may be used for tracking the condition of an oil in a machine over a period of time. The methods are particularly useful for assessing the condition of an industrial oil e.g. a lubricating oil that has been used to lubricate moving parts in a machine.
