Patent number: 11027874Abstract: This invention relates to application of labels from a supply of labels which are defined in sheet material and in which adjacent labels are joined together by a line of weakening to form a continuous label supply. The label sheet material is provided with a layer of adhesive which contacts with a backing layer to form the label supply. The leading label is provided with a leading edge portion detached from the backing layer from application at an application point to an article and the article and label feed movement are controlled such that the remainder of the label can be detached from the backing layer, and the line of weakening broken effectively and accurately and without the need for the sheet material of the label supply and/or backing layer to have a thickness to provide the level of rigidity or stiffness of the material which is conventionally required, thereby reducing material usage and wastage.Type: GrantFiled: January 18, 2016Date of Patent: June 8, 2021Assignee: Catchpoint LimitedInventor: Michael John Cooper

Patent number: 8550139Abstract: The invention which is the subject of this application is apparatus and a method for the application of labels to articles-, via adhesive or other mechanical location means. The labels are provided in a label supply (2) with respective labels (8) defined by a line of weakening (6) formed by slits (12) or perforations and the line of weakening includes at least one aperture (12) provided for engagement by a tool (12) at the time when the line of weakening is required to be broken to separate the leading label and allow the same to be applied to the article.Type: GrantFiled: September 3, 2008Date of Patent: October 8, 2013Assignee: Catchpoint LimitedInventors: Michael Cooper, David Ashmore

Patent number: 8540003Abstract: The invention relates to apparatus which can be used to apply self adhesive labels (2) from a label supply (14,100), with said apparatus requiring no or very little alteration to allow the same to be used to apply labels which are provided on a backing layer or labels which are provided from a linerless label supply. This allows the use of the apparatus to be significantly wide ranging while ensuring that the accuracy of application is still maintained.Type: GrantFiled: April 16, 2009Date of Patent: September 24, 2013Assignee: Catchpoint LimitedInventor: Michael Cooper

Patent number: 7811404Abstract: A web (36) of paper or the like has labels (42) defined therein by printing the web (36) followed by skip cutting (40) the web to define the label boundaries. The skip cutting (40) leaves the labels (42) connected to the remainder of the web (36) by breakable catch points (44). The labels (42) are rendered capable of being applied to product containers (16) by the web (36) having adhesive applied to the side opposite the printing, and the web (36) is rendered capable of being wound up by having an adhesive release coating, such as silicone, applied over the printing.Type: GrantFiled: May 21, 2003Date of Patent: October 12, 2010Assignee: Catchpoint LimitedInventor: Richard Wade
