Patent number: 8085207Abstract: A guard (120) for an antenna (602) includes a base (206) defined between a front edge (209), a rear edge (211), and two lateral edges (213, 215). A front generally triangular surface (208) extends from the front edge (209) to a narrowed upper edge, a rear generally triangular surface (210) extends from the rear edge (211) to a narrowed upper edge, and two lateral generally triangular surfaces (212, 214), each having a narrowed upper edge, extend from their respective lateral edge (213, 215). The narrowed upper edges form an apex (204), which forms an opening (202). The surfaces (208, 210, 212, 214) at least partially define an internal cavity (304) that encloses a portion (604) of the antenna (602). The front surface (208) is at a first angle (?) relative to a mounting surface (117) and the rear surface (210) is at a second, larger angle (?) relative to the mounting surface (117).Type: GrantFiled: August 5, 2008Date of Patent: December 27, 2011Assignee: Caterpillar Forest Products Inc.Inventors: Jason Lee Miller, Kevin M. Publication number: 20110257842Abstract: The disclosure relates to a power management system for a forestry machine. The power management system improves the efficiency of the machine by automating control of the hydraulic systems of the machine. A controller receives a signal from a cutting tool speed sensor and can control the operation of the various pumps and motors on the machine.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 14, 2010Publication date: October 20, 2011Applicant: Caterpillar Forest Products Inc.Inventors: Douglas W. Patent number: 7954524Abstract: A motor for a tree processing machine is provided. The motor includes a mechanism configured to drive a wheel. The wheel is configured to engage a portion of a tree. The motor also includes a housing containing the mechanism. The motor further includes an encoder. The encoder is configured to be operably coupled to the mechanism. The encoder is also configured to generate a signal indicative of a length of a portion of a tree engaged by the wheel. The encoder is contained in the housing.Type: GrantFiled: December 16, 2008Date of Patent: June 7, 2011Assignee: Caterpillar Forest Products Inc.Inventor: Grant William Voermans

Patent number: 7950492Abstract: An operator's station for a machine having at least two stations comprises a seat mounted to swivel between at least a first position and a second position, at least first and second windshield portions disposed generally opposed or at an angle to one another and generally corresponding to the first and second positions, and at least first and second windshield wipers movably mounted to selectively sweep the first and second windshield portions, respectively. At least one control device selectively renders the first windshield wiper selectively operable when the seat is disposed in the first position and inoperable when the seat is disposed in the second position.Type: GrantFiled: October 30, 2008Date of Patent: May 31, 2011Assignee: Caterpillar Forest Products Inc.Inventor: Chad K. Patent number: 7832437Abstract: A tree felling head including a gathering arm and a bunching finger. In various embodiments the bunching finger may include inner and outer arms pivotally coupled together with the inner arm also pivotally coupled to a frame portion of the felling head. A biasing member, e.g. a compression spring, urges pivotal movements of the inner arm toward (and/or away from) the accumulation area of the felling head. An actuator connected to the outer arm reciprocally helps urges movement of the finger into and out of the accumulation area of the felling head. In various embodiments, a coupling of the actuator to the outer arm permits folding pivotal movement between the arms when retraction occurs and a tree inhibits outer sweeping movement of the outer finger. Said folding resulting in withdrawal of the outer finger from behind the inhibiting tree.Type: GrantFiled: October 17, 2007Date of Patent: November 16, 2010Assignee: Caterpillar Forest Products IncInventor: Mike Trom

Patent number: 7828328Abstract: A headboard assembly connected to a machine frame includes a stationary gate that is pivotally connected to the frame and a moveable gate disposed in slidable engagement with the stationary gate. A linear actuator pivotally connects the moveable gate to the frame via first and second pin joints. The linear actuator selectively extends and retracts the moveable gate relative to the stationary gate when the headboard assembly is in an operating position. The linear actuator is further arranged to selectively tilt the headboard assembly relative to the frame when the headboard assembly is in a service position.Type: GrantFiled: October 29, 2008Date of Patent: November 9, 2010Assignee: Caterpillar Forest Products IncInventors: Jay T.
