Patent number: 12060826Abstract: A containerised generator set comprises a generator arranged within a container having a first aperture through which cooling air is exhausted in use. A pair of first doors are arranged to pivot outwardly on either side of the first aperture, with a removable wall being removably mounted between the first doors and spaced apart from the body of the container by the first doors from its lower end region to its tipper end region in its mounted position. The removable wall and the first doors define an exhaust air duct which preferably includes a sound absorbent material. The exhaust air duct extends for at least most of a total height of the body of the container to attenuate noise from the generator. Exhausted cooling air flows upwardly from the open upper end of the exhaust air duct and away from the immediate operating environment.Type: GrantFiled: July 15, 2019Date of Patent: August 13, 2024Assignee: Caterpillar (NI) LimitedInventor: Graham Jewhurst

Patent number: 9584055Abstract: A voltage regulator system for regulating an output voltage of a genset includes a voltage regulator for reducing terminal voltage in response to a reduction in terminal frequency. A plurality of under-frequency roll-off (UFRO) states is provided in the voltage regulator, with each UFRO state being configured to implement a UFRO characteristic. An operational signal indicative of an operating condition of the genset forms the basis for selection of the UFRO characteristic.Type: GrantFiled: July 17, 2012Date of Patent: February 28, 2017Assignee: Caterpillar (NI) LimitedInventors: Alan Cooper, Keith Chambers, David McGowan, John Morrow

Patent number: 9554482Abstract: An enclosure is provided which is mountable to a base frame carrying a generator. The enclosure includes a lower portion connectable to the base frame. The lower portion includes a lower first sidewall, a lower second sidewall, and a lower first end wall and a lower second end wall. The enclosure further includes an upper portion having a roof, an upper first sidewall, an upper second sidewall, and an upper end wall depending downwardly from the roof. The lower portion and the upper portion are hingedly connected together such that the upper portion is pivotable relative to the lower portion between closed and open positions.Type: GrantFiled: October 29, 2012Date of Patent: January 24, 2017Assignee: Caterpillar (NI) LimitedInventors: Michael J. Wilson, Colin H. Nugent, Gary R. Busby, Ivan R. Robinson

Patent number: 9371953Abstract: A base made of a composite material supports a generator assembly. The base may support a number of components of the generator assembly, including an alternator, an engine, a control panel, a fuel tank, and a lifting frame. The base may include first and second tiers that are in two different horizontal planes for mounting of the alternator on one tier and the engine on the second tier, with a drive shaft of the alternator being aligned with a drive shaft of the engine. The base may include ribs extending from an under side of a support surface of the base in order to distribute loads and withstand stresses that result from the weight of the generator assembly.Type: GrantFiled: June 28, 2013Date of Patent: June 21, 2016Assignee: Caterpillar (NI) LimitedInventors: Gordon Spratt, John Lawson
