  • Publication number: 20220390009
Abstract: In some implementations, a controller may cause a gearbox coupled to a rotor to shift between a first gear ratio and a second gear ratio one or more times. The controller may obtain a first set of position data that identifies respective first positions of a gear selector of the gearbox for each shift to the first gear ratio, and a second set of position data that identifies respective second positions of the gear selector of the gearbox for each shift to the second gear ratio. The controller may determine a first calibrated position of the gear selector for a shift to the first gear ratio based on the first set of position data and a second calibrated position of the gear selector for a shift to the second gear ratio based on the second set of position data.

  • Publication number: 20220380989
Abstract: A system, apparatus, and method can control one or more screed extensions or extenders of a paving machine. Such control can include identifying a location of an undesirable surface condition of a mat paved on a base by the paving machine using data from one or more sensors associated with a screed extension; characterizing the undesirable surface condition of the mat; and adjusting a height and/or an angle of attack of an extension plate of the screed extension to prevent future occurrences of the undesirable surface condition responsive to the identification and characterization of the undesirable surface condition. The location of the undesirable surface condition can represent a start of the undesirable surface condition in a transverse direction of the paving machine and can be associated with either an interface between the screed extension and a main screed or outward of the interface, along a length of the extension plate of the screed extension.

  • Publication number: 20220364316
Abstract: A method includes performing, with a compacting machine, a first pass to compact a first portion of a work area to compact a first lane. A guidance system acquires position information representing the first compacted lane. A second pass is performed to compact a second portion of the work area adjacent the first portion. The guidance system acquires current position information of the machine representing current positioning of the machine during the second pass. Comparing the position information of the machine representing the first compacted lane with the current position information, determines whether the current positioning overlaps the first compacted lane a specified amount. When the second pass is determined to overlap the first compacted lane, in-compliance visual indicia is generated. When the second pass is determined to not overlap the first compacted lane with the specified amount, out of compliance visual indicia is generated.

  • Patent number: 11479926
Abstract: The disclosure is directed towards a system for compacting a work area. The system includes a compactor, a first compaction sensor positioned on a forward end of the compactor, a second compaction sensor positioned on a rearward end of the compactor, and a controller. The controller is configured to receive a first compaction data associated with the work area from the first compaction sensor. The controller is further configured to determine a first compaction effort based on the first compaction data and control the compactor to perform compaction with the determined first compaction effort. The controller is configured to receive a second compaction data associated with a compacted first portion from the second compaction sensor and determine a variance between the first and the second compaction data. Furthermore, the controller is configured to determine a correlation between the variance and the first compaction effort to determine a second compaction effort.
