  • Publication number: 20040230181
Abstract: An apparatus and method for collecting urine from an incontinent person including a condom catheter fluidly coupled to the inlet of a urine pump, with the outlet of the pump fluidly coupled to a urine collection bag suspended about the person's abdomen by an integral strap. The pump is fastened to the strap adjacent to the urine bag. The pump mechanism has a resilient flexible tubular section that is provided with inlet and outlet check valves and functions by displacing liquid present within the tubular section by physically deforming the tubing. A cam, driven by a solenoid, causes a crimping of the tubular section which expels fluid through pump discharge. When the force causing physical deformation is released, the resilient tubular section returns to its original shape, providing a suction at the pump inlet.

  • Patent number: 6736803
Abstract: This bag includes an improvement in the form of an extendable drain tube that is normally retracted and retained in flat coiled condition against the front wall of the bag. The tube is biased into its coiled condition by the elastic memory of the thermoplastic material from which it is formed and, in a preferred embodiment, the flat coil is oval-shaped with its major axis extending generally vertically when the bag is worn. A retention strap attached to the front wall of the bag serves to hold the drain tube in its coiled condition against the bag's front wall. A valve is located at a distal end of the drain tube, which is used to control drainage. The location of the valve prevents spillage of residual urine upon recoil of the drain tube.

  • Publication number: 20030032944
Abstract: A urine collection bag having the basic features appearing in U.S. Pat. No. 4,449,971 is disclosed. The bag also includes an improvement in the form of an extendable drain tube that is normally retracted and retained in flat coiled condition against the front wall of the bag.

  • Patent number: 6352526
Abstract: An improved anti-reflux valve is formed as a folded flap of two sheets that are heat sealed along their side edges, folded along their top edges, and free at their lower edges to make a distal opening of the valve. The anti-reflux valve has a channel extending between a point below a valve entry port in one of the sheets down to the distal opening. The ratio of the length of the channel to the width or diameter of the distal opening is 3 to 1, which is an effective ratio to virtually eliminate back flow. The improved anti-reflux valve may be used in a first wall of a urine collection bag to prevent back flow of urine through the valve entry port and into the drainage tube and the bladder.

  • Patent number: 6045542
Abstract: A flat urinary drainage bag that can be worn by a patient over the abdomen with the bag suspended from a waist-encircling belt is disclosed. The device includes an inlet tube for connection to a urethral catheter and a valve-equipped drain tube that extends downwardly from the bag when the drain tube is used to drain the contents therefrom. The lower end of the bag is foldable upwardly to position the drain tube in an upwardly-facing raised position against the bag's front wall, and a retaining strap is located across the front wall for holding the drain tube in its raised position. Spot attachments that secure the ends of the strap to the bag's front wall also secure the front and rear walls of the bag together, thereby performing multiple functions of limiting bulging of the bag in use, reducing sloshing of the bag's contents, and securing the retaining strap (and the raised drainage tube) in place.
