  • Patent number: 4610735
Abstract: The invention concerns a method for minimizing deformation during rapid cooling of flat metallurigcal products such as sheets, strips, flattened portions, wide sections and the like. The method comprises rapidly cooling the product by means of a fluid (or mixtures of fluids) at temperature T.sub.F, comprising at least one vaporizable liquid, with modulation in a direction perpendicular to the direction of advance of the product, so as to impart different cooling speeds to the edges and the axis (case I) or to one edge and the other (case II).The technique may be completed by careful masking of the cooling in the zone for the rapid cooling action, or by controlled precooling prior to said rapid cooling. The method makes it possible to obtain the rapid cooling which is necessary e.g. in quenching operations, while at the same time minimizing the deformations or the internal stress level of flat products.

  • Patent number: 4575056
Abstract: The present invention relates to a process and apparatus for the recovery of liquid aluminium by compression of hot dross. The process comprises placing the dross in a die up to a height which depends on the diameter of said die and which is lower at the center than at the periphery of the die, and then applying to the dross a punch which is moved downwardly at a speed which is lower in proportion to a lower level of concentration of liquid aluminium in the dross. The apparatus comprises a cylindrical die (10) provided with an insert member at each of its ends. The die rests on a base (3) which has an annular groove (4) on its upper face; the lower insert member (7) is of a diameter that is at least equal to the inside diameter of the groove and in any case less than the outside diameter and has a continuous upper face of conical shape; the space (16) between the wall surface of said insert member and the internal wall surface of the die is of a constant width and is disposed facing the groove.

  • Patent number: 4501315
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method of controlling and regulating operational parameters of a machine for continuously casting bands between cylinders, allowing adhesion to be avoided. This method comprises considering as parameters the torque exerted on one or other of the cylinders for moving the band on and comprises permanently comparing the frequency of the variations in the torque measurement with a reference frequency. When the variation frequency is greater than the reference frequency, the casting speed of the machine is reduced and/or the lubricant flow rate is increased until the variation frequency is again lower than the reference frequency. The speed of the casting machine is then increased as long as the variation frequency remains below the reference frequency.

  • Patent number: 4389134
Abstract: A coupling for two tubes forcibly engaged one into the other, the two tubes being substantially of the same sections while the female tube is engaged into a sleeve or an opening whose diameter is little larger than the outside diameter of said tube. Thus, the female tube is crimped or banded in the sleeve or opening while the male tube is forced to contract. This assembly means may be used for making balustrades or ladders or assembling various members which are fixed with respect to the tubes or the ring.

  • Patent number: 4326773
Abstract: The invention concerns a cylindro-parabolic reflector for focusing solar rays on the focal axis of the cylinder. The reflector comprises modular elements which are assembled by means of tubes which are interengaged strictly in alignment with each other. The complementary male and female ends of the tubes have been formed by the tubes previously having been forcibly engaged into each other. This makes it possible to provide reflectors of substantially perfect parabolic shape, in spite of their substantial length. The invention will be used primarily in the construction of solar steam generating stations.

  • Patent number: 4297777
Abstract: A method for the production of a composite hollow body formed of aluminum alloys and composed of two layers having differing structure. One layer of the hollow body is intended to operate in contact with a mobile surface and is produced by extruding a mixture of particles of a hypereutectic silicon alloy having fine grains and an addition product. The other layer is selected from among alloys having certain particular properties and has the structure of a cast and wrought product. The present method particularly consists of the step of joining the two layers by coextrusion on a mandrel in an inverse extrusion press. The composite hollow bodies so produced are used in the production of linings for internal combustion engines or for jacks.

  • Patent number: 4019342
Abstract: A compressor for a refrigerant gas wherein a rotor acts on a rocking plate to effect rocking thereof and reciprocation of pistons in cylinder bores to produce suction and exhaust strokes for refrigerant gas. A lubricant is contained in a sump in the compressor casing and it is atomized and mixed with refrigerant gas which leaks past the pistons. A duct is formed in the casing for conveying the mixture of refrigerant gas and lubricant from the casing under the action of the suction stroke of the pistons. The mixture is delivered at the inlet for refrigerant gas and the total mixture now flows to a separator where the lubricant is separated from the refrigerant gas. The refrigerant gas is then supplied into the cylinder bores during the suction stroke and the lubricant is delivered into a reservoir where it is forceably delivered back into the casing to the sump.
