    Abstract: A method is provided for introducing at least one polynucleotide of interest into an intervertebral disc cell, wherein the polynucleotide of interest is transfected with a lipid-based delivery agent. Also provided are methods for introducing polynucleotides encoding one or more telomerase catalytic subunits into collagen-producing cells and methods for increasing extracellular matrix formation in collagen-producing cells.
