    Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and apparatus for the thermal treatment of combustible materials wherein the materials to be treated are introduced in a cylindrical enclosure of horizontal axis. A stream of hot gases flowing around the horizontal axis places the particles of materials in suspension. A fraction of the hot gases is recycled outside the enclosure with a view to being re-introduced therein. The apparatus is particularly suitable for treating fine vegetable materials, such as chopped straw.
