The bottom assembly having a vacuum valve operatively coupled with a valve body. A wire-form keeper may slidably secure the bottom assembly to the top assembly. A pressure spring may impart a force that biases said bottom assembly away from said top assembly.

Abstract: A fuel filter comprises a filter housing, a filter assembly positioned within said filter housing, a fuel inlet adapted to receive fuel into the filter housing, and a fuel outlet. The filter assembly may have a first end cap, a second end cap, and a filter element positioned therebetween. The filter element may comprise a particulate filter component and a water sensing component, the water sensing component having a center tube, a water sensing layer, and a screen. The water sensing layer may wrap around at least a portion of the center tube and be secured in place by the screen. The water sensing layer comprises a gelling and thickening agent, such as methyl hydroxyethyl cellulose. In operation, the fuel filter is configured to direct fuel received at the fuel inlet to the fuel outlet by way of the water sensing component and the particulate filter component.

Abstract: A method of treating a liquid made up of an initial alcohol-blended fuel combined with water so that there is phase separation of an alcohol-water layer. A co-solvent is added to the first quantity of liquid and mixed with the first quantity of liquid to reverse the phase separation of the alcohol-water layer.

Abstract: A filter includes a housing having an inlet and an outlet. A filter core including a filter media is movably disposed within the housing with the inlet and the outlet in fluid communication with opposite sides of the core and a pressure responsive surface in fluid communication with said inlet. The filter also includes a valve supported on the filter core and moveable into a sealing position to prevent fluid from passing to the outlet when said core moves within said housing response to fluid pressure acting against said pressure responsive surface.

Abstract: A filter media for use in a filter employed to separate water and particulate material from a liquid to be purified, such as a hydrocarbon fuel. The filter media includes a porous material such as glass fiber having a density sufficient to provide the desired mechanical filtration and which carries a water insoluble, water-absorbing material as, for example, a starch-polyacrylonitrile graft copolymer. Also disclosed is a filter employing the media and a method of making the media.
