Patent number: 10578695Abstract: Selectively exciting bulk protons in certain tissue components, e.g. water, while suppressing the excitation of others, e.g. fat, can lead to images with better contrast for desired features. The invention provides binomial, off-resonance RF excitation pulses for differentiating tissue excitation that yields a larger fat suppression that prior art water excitation methods. Proper balancing of the frequency offset and the pulse duration with a relative phase offset between the pulses leads to large-bandwidth pass- and stopbands for water and fat, respectively. The pulses can be applied with short, or even zero, interpulse delay, leading to substantial time savings in the imaging sequence.Type: GrantFiled: April 14, 2017Date of Patent: March 3, 2020Assignee: Centre Hospitalier Universitaire VaudoisInventor: Josefina Adriana Maria Bastiaansen

Patent number: 10357175Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for predicting awakening in a comatose patient based on the progression of auditory discrimination during early stages of coma. EEG measures are acquired from the patient during two distinct periods when said patient is exposed to auditory stimuli comprising repeated standard and deviant sounds. The first period occurs when the comatose patient is in a hypothermia state and the second period occurs when the comatose patient is in a normal temperature state and preferably within 2-3 days from the onset of the coma. The present invention further relates to a computer-implemented method thereof.Type: GrantFiled: March 12, 2013Date of Patent: July 23, 2019Assignee: Centre Hospitalier Universitaire Vaudois(C.H.U.V.)Inventors: Marzia De Lucia, Athina Tzovara

Patent number: 10282640Abstract: A method improves a detection of a brain tissue pathology in magnetic resonance (MR) images of a patient. The method includes acquiring multiple MR imaging data for creating four different contrast maps of a patient brain. From the multiple MR imaging data, performing an estimation of gray matter (GM), white matter (WM) and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) concentration for each voxel of a part of the patient brain. From the multiple MR imaging data, segmenting the part of the patient brain in different regions-of-interest (ROIs) according to a chosen atlas. For each voxel of each of the contrast maps of the patient brain, computing, for the part of the patient brain, a deviation score. The method further includes creating from the deviation score and for each of the quantitative contrast maps, a deviation map representing the part of the brain in dependence on the deviation score calculated for each voxel.Type: GrantFiled: May 24, 2017Date of Patent: May 7, 2019Assignees: Siemens Healthcare GmbH, Centre hospitalier universitaire vaudoisInventors: Guillaume Bonnier, Cristina Granziera, Tobias Kober, Gunnar Krueger
