  • Patent number: 8690491
Abstract: A rotary cutting tool has a main body with one or more segments exchangeably fastened to its circumference or internally thereof. The main body and the segment have fitting elements with mutually contacting faces. The exchangeable fastening is effected by a clamping piece, which is dovetailed on two sides and is additionally configured with a taper that wedges in the axial direction. The first dovetail-shaped part of the clamping piece engages in a corresponding recess of the main body and the second dovetail-shaped part of the clamping piece engages in a corresponding recess of the segment.

  • Patent number: 8042437
Abstract: A tool structure contains a first part having an oval end section with regard to an axis of symmetry in a direction of a maximum height and an axis of symmetry in the direction of a maximum width, and a second part having a recess accommodating the end section via mutual contact surfaces. The tool structure has a clamping element for the mutual clamping of the parts and mutual contact surfaces that are restricted to in each case four spaced-apart surface sections. These surface sections are disposed symmetrically with respect to a circumference of the end section such that a center point of a straight connecting line of the starting and end points of the respective surface section is at a normal distance b1 from the axis of symmetry and at a normal distance h1 from the axis of symmetry, h1 being greater than b1.

  • Patent number: 7823487
Abstract: A cutting tool for machining by chip removal has a supply of a cold-gas flow for cooling the immediate machine-cutting region. Accordingly, in this case, the cold-gas flow is supplied internally and is generated by a low-temperature generator, which is integrated into the tool main body and which, via a vortex tube, converts compressed gas from normal temperature into a cold-gas flow and a warm-gas flow.

  • Patent number: 7537726
Abstract: A component is produced by powder metallurgy from hard metal. The alloy includes at least one grain growth-inhibiting additive from the group consisting of V, Cr, Ti, Ta and Nb with, at least locally, a graduated concentration profile. As a result, the mechanical properties also have a graduated profile. In the fabrication process, a dispersion or solution which contains the grain growth-inhibiting additive in finely distributed or dissolved form is applied to the surface of a green compact. Penetration of this dispersion or solution along open pores leads to a graduated distribution of the grain growth-inhibiting additive in the green compact. There is also described a process in which the grain growth-inhibiting additive in the form of a solution is distributed uniformly in the green compact and is then gradually broken down from edge regions by a heat treatment or a solvent.

  • Patent number: 7281885
Abstract: A high-speed milling cutter has a tool parent body and one or more plate-shaped cutting inserts with a convex, approximately arc-shaped cutting edge. The insert(s) is/are fastened in an insert seat of the tool parent body. Mating elements with mutual contact surfaces for absorbing the centrifugal forces occurring during use are provided in each case between insert seat and cutting insert. The contact surface of the first mating element is designed in the shape of a circular arc, approximately concentrically to the cutting edge. The contact surface of the second mating element is likewise designed in the shape of a circular arc, approximately concentrically to the cutting edge, or consists of at least two contact zones which lie on an imaginary circular arc, approximately concentrically to the cutting edge, the contact surface or the imaginary circular arc coinciding with the contact surface of the first mating element.

  • Publication number: 20060118341
Abstract: The invention relates to a drill bit (1), in particular a masonry drill bit comprising an elongated shaft (15) and a cutting plate (2), one end of which has inclined cutting edges (3, 3?;4, 4?) that form a point. Each cutting edge (3, 3?; 4, 4?) is formed by the abutment of a cutting face (5, 5?; 6, 6?), lying in front of the cutting edge (3, 3?; 4, 4?) in the rotational direction (17) of the drill bit (1) and a flank (7, 7?; 8, 8?), lying behind the cutting edge (3, 3?; 4, 4?) in the rotational direction (17) of the drill bit (1), each cutting face and flank respectively forming a wedge angle y. In the central region of the drill bit (1), the cutting plate (2) has a centring tip that is stepped in relation to the marginal regions, the cutting edges (4, 4?) of said tip being set back in the rotational direction (17) in relation to the cutting edges (3, 3?) of the marginal regions.

  • Patent number: 6852274
Abstract: A hard metal granulate is produced by wet milling and spray drying in a spray tower using pure water as the liquid phase. The spray tower is configured and operated in such a way that a ratio of the quantity of water added via the slurry (in liters per hour) to tower volume (in m3) is between 0.5 and 1.8 and in that a maximum of 0.17 kg of slurry is atomized per m3 of incoming drying gas. The slurry has a solid particle concentration within a range of 65-85% by weight. Under these conditions, the addition of a water-soluble, long-chain polyglycol to the slurry prior to spraying previously required in order to prevent oxidation of the hard metal granulate is no longer necessary.

  • Patent number: 6712563
Abstract: The indexable cutting insert for turning is formed with a plurality of main cutting edges. Adjacent main cutting edges, which enclose an angle with one another, are connected via a cutting corner. The cutting corner has two corner sections arranged symmetrically to a bisector of the angle. The corner sections, in the region of the angle bisector, have a depression with respect to the adjacent outer contours. Compared with conventional indexable inserts, the number of corner sections that can be used independently of one another is doubled.

  • Patent number: 6702047
Abstract: The drill bit is particularly suitable for drilling rock. An elongated shank carries at least one cutting insert at one end. Cutting edges are formed by adjoining flanks and rake faces which enclose a wedge angle &ggr;. The rake faces, between marginal segments at the circumference of the drill bit and segments at the center of the drill bit have one or more recesses which run right into the adjacent flanks. These recesses reduce the wedge angle &ggr;, at least in a longitudinal section extending directly up to the cutting edges, relative to the remaining cutting-edge segments. In this way, an improved drilling capacity with good resistance to chipping of the cutting edges is achieved.
