  • Patent number: 7302839
Abstract: Disclosed is a method of and system for gathering off-body pressure signature data from a scaled model in a wind tunnel. The data is gathered using a probe having multiple longitudinally disposed static pressure ports. Because of the number of ports and their spacing, the probe is able to remain stationary in the tunnel for the entire range of Mach numbers and model positions to be tested. Thus, tunnel flow characteristics can be easily and effectively removed. The system also has an automated model positioning system which enables settings at different pitch, yaw, and roll angles. This enables the user to locate the model so that it can be traversed at a fixed distance above the probe while maintaining the desired angular orientation of the model. By repeatedly traversing the model at different angular orientations, a detailed and accurate off-body pressure distribution can be obtained. The wind tunnel test technique captures full off-body pressure signatures in a complete 360 degree azimuthal range.

  • Publication number: 20070271008
Abstract: A system and method for a controlling an aircraft with flight control surfaces that are controlled both manually and by a computing device is disclosed. The present invention improves overall flight control operation by reducing the mechanical flight control surface components while providing sufficient back-up control capability in the event of either a mechanical or power-related failure. Through the present invention, natural feedback is provided to the operator from the mechanical flight control surface which operates independent of computer-aided flight control surfaces.

  • Patent number: 7004546
Abstract: A stowable chair armrest for a seat assembly which includes a armrest portion connected to the seat assembly through a restricted movement rotating joint which has limited rotation about a horizontal X and Y axes, the Y-axis being parallel to the length of the armrest portion and positioned above the plane of the seat cushion whereby the armrest portion is rotatable about the Y-axis approximately 180° from an elevated position of the armrest to a retracted position. When the armrest is in its use position, it cannot rotate downward about its Y-axis. However, the arm rest can be lifted upward 10° about its X-axis, wherein a flat blade connecting the armrest to a spherical pivot becomes aligned in a longitudinal chamber having a circular cross-section thus permitting the armrest portion to rotate 180° about its Y-axis to its stowed position.

  • Patent number: 6704972
Abstract: A lightweight plastic bolt-like fastener which is used in pairs having a dual ratcheting function. The fastener includes a bolt having a stem which is semi-cylindrical in cross-section, with a head connected to one end of the stem and a semi-circular aperture in the head positioned coaxially aligned with the stem for receipt of a stem from a second bolt directed in opposite orientation. Positioned longitudinally along the flat side of the stem is a rack of serrated teeth which when the stem is inserted within the semi-circular aperture, a deflectable locking tab attached to the head end of the stem engages the rack of serrated teeth as a ratchet, and since the two fasteners each have stems sliding within the semi-circular aperture of the opposing stem, there is a double ratcheting action between both fasteners.

  • Patent number: 6196797
Abstract: An electronic self-powered propeller governor driven off the aircraft engine includes a drive shaft which drives a hydraulic pump to produce pressurized oil to move a hydraulically controlled piston connected to the propeller blade for changing the blade pitch. A hydraulic control valve which controls the position of the piston includes a spool which is positioned within the drive shaft and supplies pressure to the piston for changing the pitch of the propeller blade. The drive shaft also drives an AC generator producing an electrical RPM signal which is supplied to a linear control circuit. A manually operated RPM control produces an electrical signal supplied to said linear control circuit which is compared with the RPM signal produced by the generator and in turn the linear control circuit signals an actuator.

  • Patent number: 5581016
Abstract: A detonation detection system for internal combustion piston engines which senses pressure within each cylinder through a piezoelectric force transducers installed under each spark plug producing pressure charged signals which signal is converted from inline charge to voltage. The signal is then passed through a gating comparator which segregates out the low pressure signals associated with intake and exhaust strokes. The signal then passes through a high-pass filter which removes normal combustion pressures. The filtered signal is then processed through an RMS (root mean square) to a DC converter which continuously computes the instantaneous square of the input signal, averages it, and takes the square root of the result to provide a DC voltage proportional to the RMS of the input. The DC signal is then processed through a peak and hold circuit which holds the peak signal for an adjustable reset-time period.
