Abstract: Various methods preserve or restore the low roughness throughout an outer shell of a device (e.g., a streamer) used underwater for seismic surveys, by applying various substances that fill micro-cracks, are easy to polish or are self-healing. Apparatuses used to implement these methods may be used shortly before the devices are deployed in water, for example, having the device passing through such an apparatus as it is moved to be deployed in water.
Abstract: Embodiments describe methods, devices and systems for marine seismic surveying which prevent or inhibit marine growth thereon. Towed seismic array elements which can become fouled given their presence in the water for extended time periods are coated with a hydrophobic coating, e.g., a superhydrophobic nanocoating applied manually via an aerosol can or brush. Application of the hydrophobic coating can be performed on board the towing vessel, or even potentially in the water.
Abstract: Method, source array and source element that generate seismic waves. The source element includes an enclosure having an opening covered by a piston; a local supply accumulator fluidly communicating with an interior of the enclosure, a pressure of the fluid inside the local supply accumulator being larger than a pressure of the fluid inside the enclosure; a local supply valve located between the local supply accumulator and the enclosure and configured to control a flow of the fluid from the local supply accumulator to the interior of the enclosure; and a controller configured to control the local supply valve such that the pressure inside the enclosure does not fall below a first preset value based upon an ambient pressure of the enclosure while seismic waves are generated.

Abstract: Method and controller for finding a best distribution of source elements that form a vibratory source array. The method includes inputting plural constraints for the source elements; generating plural distributions of the source elements that fulfill the plural constraints; calculating for each distribution a first attribute characterizing the source array; and selecting the best distribution from the plural distributions based on a value of the first attribute.

Abstract: Computing device, system and method for calculating a far-field signature of a vibratory seismic source. The method includes determining an absolute acceleration of a piston of the vibratory seismic source while the vibratory seismic source generates a seismic wave; calculating, based on the absolute acceleration of the piston, a far-field waveform of the vibratory seismic source at a given point (O) away from the vibratory seismic source; and cross-correlating the far-field waveform with a driving pilot signal of the vibratory seismic source to determine the far-field signature of the vibratory seismic source.
Abstract: A streamer usable underwater for a marine seismic survey has a portion adjacent to a protuberance covered by an adhesive antifouling tape or substrate. The tape, which may be made of copper or copper alloy is configured to be fast fastened, may be applied when the streamer is deployed and may be covered by a protective jacket during recovery.
Abstract: Methods related to controlling a source array while performing a seismic survey to achieve an intended source signature. A current three dimensional arrangement of the individual seismic sources is compared with a target 3D arrangement. In view of the comparison, position of at least one of the individual seismic sources is adjusted so that the adjusted 3D arrangement of the individual seismic sources to substantially match the target 3D arrangement.
Abstract: A bird for a streamer or source of marine seismic survey system has a body configured to be attached to the streamer or source, and a wing connected to the body and having an active surface used to control depth and/or lateral position of the body. The wing is configured to be changed between an operational state in which the active surface is extended away from the body, and a folded state in which the active surface is folded close to the body.
Abstract: Methods and systems for performing a single pass multi-density seismic acquisition are described. A single pass multi-density seismic acquisition includes a plurality of different length streamers towed by one or more streamer vessels. The different length streamers are configured to provide different streamer (receiver) density zones from a highest density to lowest density from the least offset to the greatest offset of the streamers. The different density zones provide for optimized data associated with multiples rejection, imaging and model building/full waveform inversion.
Abstract: A depth-varying marine acoustic source array is configured for generating an acoustic wave in a body of water. The depth-varying marine acoustic source array includes a float; plural source points connected to the float through corresponding cables; and a housing extending from a first source point to a last source point, the housing including plural segments. The at least one segment is configured to withstand bending.
Abstract: Methods and systems for separating multiple events from primary events in noisy seismic data are described. Multiples are predicted and then the predictions are improved by least-square matching filtering in the space and time domain. An adaptive curvelet domain separation (ACDS) is then performed and the ACDS equation is solved with an iterative soft-thresholding technique. Further processing can be added to compensate for prediction inaccuracy or variable/excessive seismic data noise by dividing the seismic data into predetermined bands and processing each band independently.
Abstract: Devices and methods for stabilizing a tailbuoy attached to a streamer towed during a marine survey are provided. The tailbuoy includes a floating body configured to be connected to the streamer, and a keel attached to the floating body. The keel is configured to stabilize a motion of the tailbuoy along a towing direction while in a working state, and to be switched between the working state in which the keel is partially submerged and a retracted state in which the keel is removed from water.
Abstract: Methods and systems for constraining surface consistent amplitude corrections are described. An amplitude map generated from pre-stack or post-stack seismic data can constrain, through the bin term, the surface consistent inversion. The methods and systems provide a solution to correct for wavelength and regional anomalies associated with heterogeneous near surface or buried velocity variations above the target horizon. The methods and systems can be used for 2D, 3D, 4D surveys or for a merge of different surveys.
