Patent number: 7703245Abstract: A seal system is utilized with flat, rough, and/or ribbed wall surfaces and includes a top dock pad and two substantially parallel side dock pads, which substantially frame a doorway at a loading dock. The dock pads are secured to the wall by a plurality of mounting brackets. The dock pads include a first foam layer coupled to a rear portion of a backing structure. The first foam layer operates to accommodate, or substantially “fill-in”, any surface irregularities of the building wall surface, such as a rough wall texture and rib surfaces, to provide an airtight or substantially airtight seal between the building and the seal structure. The dock pads also include a second foam layer coupled to a front portion of the backing structure. The second foam layer is employed to create an effective seal between the building and a rear portion of a vehicle.Type: GrantFiled: June 5, 2008Date of Patent: April 27, 2010Assignee: Chalfant Sewing Fabricators, Inc.Inventor: Jeffrey R. Patent number: 5333424Abstract: A loading dock door seal structure wherein compressible members or pads are located adjacent the top and sides of the door to engage the rear end of a truck cargo body that is backed into loading and unloading position. The pads serve to provide a seal, however, they are spaced outwardly away from the wall of the building adjacent the door frame to leave gaps. Brackets are provided at the top and sides of the door frame and secured thereto, but extend outward and have lateral legs parallel to the building wall that serve as a mount for the seal pads. The brackets also have longitudinal legs extending perpendicular to the doorframe and outwardly therefrom in the gap between the pads and the doorframe. Flexible fabric seal strips are secured to the longitudinal legs of the bracket to close the gaps between the pads and the wall building.Type: GrantFiled: January 27, 1993Date of Patent: August 2, 1994Assignee: Chalfant Sewing Fabricators, Inc.Inventors: Jeffrey R. Patent number: 4015380Abstract: A shelter or seal structure for truck docks whereat the cargo body of a truck or trailer is loaded or unloaded. The doorway in a warehouse or the like, against which the end of the cargo body is backed is provided with an exterior perimetric compressible seal structure engageable with the back end of the cargo body along the top and opposite sides. The seal structure at the sides comprises in each instance an elongated upright compressible block formed, for example, of foam rubber or the like and affixed to the outside wall adjacent the doorway. The block has a base layer of plastic sheet secured to the outer-face and an outer strip of plastic sheet fastened to the base layer at spaced locations along horizontal seams to define bulges between the seams.Type: GrantFiled: April 28, 1976Date of Patent: April 5, 1977Assignee: Chalfant Sewing Fabricators, Inc.Inventor: Thomas W.
