Patent number: 5028346Abstract: A semi-conducting ceramic is disclosed. The ceramic consists essentially of from 50 percent to 72 percent of silicon carbide particles, from 25 percent to 47 percent of silicon nitride particles and a modified silicon oxynitride glass bonded to the silicon carbide particles and bonding the silicon nitride particles together. An improvement in a method for producing an article which comprises silicon carbide particles dispersed in a matrix is also disclosed. The method includes the step of firing or sintering the article to convert the matrix to a densified ceramic with the formation of a liquid phase. The improvement involves embedding the article, prior to firing, in a cover material which contains powdered silicon and maintaining a nitrogen or an inert atmosphere in contact with the cover material during firing. The amount of silicon in the cover material and the composition of the atmosphere are such that the silicon carbide particles are protected against oxidation.Type: GrantFiled: October 27, 1989Date of Patent: July 2, 1991Assignee: Champion Spark Plug CompanyInventor: Francis H. Patent number: 4951343Abstract: The connector according to the invention comprises a body 2 provided with a generally hook-shaped lateral recess 7a, 7c and a laterally removable element 3 having the same shape as said recess 7a, 7c. For mounting the connector onto a hook-end or onto a straight-end wiper arm said arm (4) is first inserted into said recess 7a, 7c and the laterally removable element 3 is then screwed onto the body 2 of the connector. When the screw 13 of the element 3 is screwed into the portin 8 of the body 2 it pushes upwards, against the wiper arm 4, the hinged portion 10 of the body 2 of the connector and thus locks the wiper arm 4 in the connector.Type: GrantFiled: November 23, 1988Date of Patent: August 28, 1990Assignee: Champion Spark Plug Italiana SpAInventor: Marcello Scorsiroli

Patent number: 4831679Abstract: The invention relates to a wiper arm assembly for motor vehicles, comprising an oscillating mounting head (1), a rod (2) rigidly secured to the mounting head (1), a slidable element (3) pivotally (12) secured to a channel (4) and arm extension (7) and capable of sliding on said rod (2). Inside the channel (4) spring means are provided which are capable of biasing the arm extension (7) towards the surface to be wiped. A stationary bar (8) is rigidly attached to the vehicle body and a movable bar (9) is pivotally secured (10) to the stationary bar (8) at one of its ends and pivotally secured (11) to the slidable element (3) at the other of its ends. When the mounting head (1) and said rod (2) are oscillating the movable bar (9) oscillates too and imparts a back and forth movement to the slidable element (3), to the channel (4) and to the arm extension ( 7). A radial movement is thus superimposed on the oscillating movement.Type: GrantFiled: April 11, 1988Date of Patent: May 23, 1989Assignee: Champion Spark Plug Europe S.A.Inventor: Norbert Guerard
