Patent number: 11303580Abstract: Implementing network constraint exceptions on a per device basis is disclosed. A network manager determines that a subscriber device associated with a subscriber network is to be granted an exception to a network constraint of the subscriber network. An aggregation device that is coupled to a set of subscriber networks including the subscriber network is sent aggregation device instructions to grant the exception to packets associated with the subscriber device that flow through the aggregation device. A network gateway device that serves as a network gateway for the subscriber network is sent gateway device instructions to associate packets associated with the subscriber device with information for identifying the packets as being associated with the subscriber device.Type: GrantFiled: April 3, 2020Date of Patent: April 12, 2022Assignee: Charter Communications Operating, LLCInventors: Ethan Wright, Matthew J. Patent number: 11303950Abstract: A plurality of icons are displayed on a companion device having a touch screen interface; the icons can be manipulated by the touch screen interface, and each of the plurality of icons represents a different one of a plurality of audiovisual assets which can be viewed on an external audiovisual device. An input gesture on the touch screen interface is obtained from a user of the companion device, wherein a given one of the icons is flicked in a manner associated with the external audiovisual device. Responsive to the obtaining of the gesture, a signal is dispatched from the companion device. The signal causes the external audiovisual device to access a given one of the plurality of audiovisual assets associated with the given one of the icons. Techniques for other than touch screen devices, and techniques to obtain programs on the companion device, are also provided.Type: GrantFiled: August 19, 2019Date of Patent: April 12, 2022Assignee: CHARTER COMMUNICATIONS OPERATING, LLCInventors: Robert Todd Smith, James C. Publication number: 20220110079Abstract: In a Citizens Broadband Radio Service (CBRS) system, high-power customer premises equipment (HP-CPE) transmits a registration request to a spectrum access system (SAS), which determines a CPE device type for the HP-CPE and transmits a positive registration response to the HP-CPE. The HP-CPE transmits a grant request to the SAS, which transmits a positive grant response to the HP-CPE. The HP-CPE transmits a heartbeat request to the SAS, which relies on the CPE device type to approve the heartbeat request without relying on a corresponding Coordinated Periodic Activity among SASs (CPAS) process, and transmits a positive heartbeat response to the HP-CPE. In one method, the SAS determines the CPE device type using a database that maps FCC model numbers to device types. In another method, the registration request contains a field with the CPE device type. Both methods enable immediate HP-CPE authorization without the delay of a CPAS process.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 2, 2020Publication date: April 7, 2022Applicant: Charter Communications Operating, LLCInventor: Lakhbir Singh

Patent number: 11291045Abstract: According to one configuration, a system includes a mobile communication device. The mobile communication device includes monitor hardware operative monitor for presence of a repetitive pattern present in received wireless communications present in a network environment. Depending on a magnitude of wireless energy of a portion of received wireless communications including the repetitive pattern, communication management hardware of the wireless station controls transmission of wireless communications from the wireless station. Publication number: 20220095395Abstract: A wireless terminal communicates test packets via alternative wireless access points, e.g., a WiFi access point, a 4G access point, a 5G access point, to a test server to evaluate alternative wireless links. Test scores are generated for each of the wireless links being evaluated based the performance of previous test packets transmitted over the link. In some embodiments, the controlled rate of test packet transmission over a wireless link is a function of WT speed and/or link score. Link test scores may be, and sometime are, conditionally cost adjusted based on the type of communications network, e.g., scores for more expensive networks, e.g., 4G cellular, are reduced to favor more inexpensive networks such as WiFi. The wireless terminal selects one or more of the alternative wireless connections to use for communication with a communications session end point based on the link scores.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 6, 2021Publication date: March 24, 2022Applicant: Charter Communications Operating, LLCInventor: Jody Beck

Patent number: 11283722Abstract: Packet prioritization for frame generation is disclosed. A modem receives, via a first communication interface, a flow priority structure that comprises one or more modem packet flow identifiers, and for each modem packet flow identifier, a corresponding packet flow priority indicator. Each modem packet flow identifier identifies a different packet flow associated with a computing device to which the modem is communicatively coupled. Dynamic allocation of resources to support split processing of wireless network communication layers
Patent number: 11277832Abstract: A network includes a first candidate pool of multiple upper-layer communication processing units and a second candidate pool of lower-layer communication processing units to support the split-layer processing. Initially, a first upper-layer processing unit and a first lower-layer processing unit in the network provide a first service over a wireless communication link established between a wireless access point and a communication device in a network. In response to receiving a request to support a second service, the network notifies the first upper-layer processing unit of the second service. If a combination of the first upper-layer processing unit and the first lower-layer processing unit cannot support the second service, the first upper-layer processing unit selects a second upper-layer processing unit. The selected second upper-layer processing unit selected from the first candidate pool is used in conjunction with the first lower-layer processing unit to support the second service.Type: GrantFiled: February 13, 2020Date of Patent: March 15, 2022Assignee: Charter Communications Operating, LLCInventors: Maulik V. Patent number: 11271677Abstract: Disclosed herein are methods and systems for determining conditions for non-terminated service provider network connections. The method includes receiving, at a service provider headend, upstream signals from premises. An uncorrectable metric and a correctable metric are determined from a portion of the upstream signals upon application of signal correction to the upstream signals, where the portion is related to an operating frequency range of a networking device and an operating frequency range of Data Over Cable Service Interface Specification (DOCSIS) devices. An alert is generated when the determined uncorrectable metric meets an uncorrectable threshold and the determined correctable metric is less than a correctable threshold for a persistent period of time, where the non-termination alert indicates a non-terminated pathway to a service provider central office from the premises when service is provided to the premises from a different service provider central office.Type: GrantFiled: January 16, 2020Date of Patent: March 8, 2022Assignee: Charter Communications Operating, LLCInventor: Nathan Gleason

Patent number: 11272575Abstract: A first radio of a wireless, e.g., dual-SIM DSDS, device communicates wirelessly with a first, e.g., 5G CBSD, base station of a first service provider using a first spectrum type, e.g., PAL or high- or low-bandwidth GAA, while a second radio communicates wirelessly with a second, e.g., 5G non-CBSD gNB, base station of a second service provider using a second spectrum type. The first radio informs the second radio of the first spectrum type assigned to the first radio, and the second radio transmits, to the second base station, capability information for the second radio based on the first spectrum type, that capability information being used by the second base station in assigning the second spectrum type to the second base station, thereby enabling equivalent QoS to be rendered to both radios even when the first service provider cannot directly control the QoS provided by the second service provider.Type: GrantFiled: November 3, 2020Date of Patent: March 8, 2022Assignee: Charter Communications Operating, LLCInventor: Volkan Sevindik
