Abstract: An apparatus includes a body, an adapter and a seal ring. The apparatus may be coupled to provide a seal that has a primary metal to metal seal and a secondary seal obtained via extrusion of the seal ring.
Abstract: Disclosed is a fixed orifice expansion device for use in connection with couplings, such as refrigerant couplings. The novel device includes a body having first and second ends, and an orifice therethrough. At least one end of the body includes a sealing mechanism for sealing the device within a bore of a cooperative coupling or the like, while the opposing end includes means for installing the body within the cooperative coupling. By use of the disclosed expansion device, a service valve for refrigerant expansion may be accomplished with three standard ARI fittings.
Abstract: A reusable union coupling is provided, particularly for refrigeration service, comprising two fittings, a body and an adapter, which are attached to the two conduits or other components to be joined. A variable washer seal cavity is created when the body and adapter are mated, within which a teflon washer is disposed. Means are provided for moveably connecting the body to the adapter and selectively compressing the washer within the cavity, in particular a rotatable collar is provided which engages the adapter and threads onto the body. Means are also provided to prevent extrusions, displacement, and over-compression of the washer.
Abstract: A fluid handling body and a method of attaching extension tubes to the fluid handling body which effectively seals the tubes to the body in a simple manufacturing operation, reducing the number of manufacturing operations required while minimizing the possibilities of damage to the tubes or undesirably restricting the fluid flow path in the body or tubes. The method hereof is particularly advantageous where several tubes are to be attached to the body to produce a precise, leak-free component. The body includes a fluid flow passageway extending into one end and a saucer-like cavity in the other end. A plurality of bores extend through the body between the cavity and passageway. With the tubes received in the bores, a paste is applied in the cavity. The outer periphery of the body is heated, melting the paste in a single heating operation and effecting flow of the paste in the cavity into circumscribing relation about the tubes.
Abstract: An improved piston in a check valve which prevents unintentional leakage past the check valve even at low pressures. The piston includes a generally-conically shaped tip and a Teflon ring received in a groove circumscribing the tip. The valve includes first and second passageways with an annular, generally conical seat therebetween. The piston is slidably received in the second passageway such that with fluid pressure applied towards the seat, the ring abuts the seat. The proximal portion of the tip adjacent the ring is inwardly relieved such that the outermost region of the ring is unsupported. When even a low pressure is applied, the ring contacts the seat and flexs or bends towards the relieved proximal portion to provide an effective low pressure seal between the ring and seat.
