  • Patent number: 9435670
Abstract: A portable apparatus for sensing position of an oil port on a rotating element (e.g. the wheel or track of a heavy vehicle) has a position sensor in electrical communication with a wireless transmitter. The wireless transmitter is configured to receive signals from the position sensor and to send signals to a wireless receiver. The apparatus further has a mounting structure (e.g. a magnet) for temporarily mounting the apparatus on the rotating element. An indicium on the apparatus associated with a desired service action to be performed on the rotating element correlates an angular position of the oil port to a pre-determined reference position of the position sensor, the angular position of the oil port being a correct position for performing the desired service action. In use, the apparatus is mounted on the rotating element so that the indicium points at the oil port and then the rotating element is rotated until the receiver indicates that the oil port is in the correct position.

  • Publication number: 20050194557
Abstract: The invention is comprised of both a male and female member that join to form a compact flatface connection for fluid transfer typically for low pressure fluid sampling for a wide range of fluid viscosities. The invention relates to the method of achieving several features in one design; high flow, small size, and a flat face valve on the male member. The present invention relates to a fluid transfer connection, and method of producing said connection. More specifically, the present invention relates to a novel combination of features: high flow, and small size for use in a low pressurized fluid or gas connection, where the female member is secured onto the male member and sealed with a flat face type seal.

  • Publication number: 20050194555
Abstract: A sealed joint structure for connecting a tube to a male threaded valve or fitting which allows fluid to be sampled or sounds to be amplified more precisely from a location within a fluid vessel, closer to the moving components. The connection includes a valve, a flared tube, a radial seal and a backup spacer. The present invention relates to a novel fluid transfer connection to draw or fill fluid residing in a remotely accessible reservoir from a tube mounted in a male threaded fitting. This fitting is typically mounted to a port on the reservoir. Typically fluid is drawn to analyze the physical and chemical properties of the fluid especially in oil lubricated power transmission devices such as gearboxes and pumps. It is highly desirable to draw, in a timely fashion, a representative fluid sample from the same location in the reservoir, from time to time, in order to accurately trend changes in fluid characteristics that relate to the integrity of the fluid and the lubricated device.

  • Patent number: 6892999
Abstract: A probe activated valve system is disclosed that permits easier and safer testing of fluids in a pressurized system. The system has a shell having a valve passage. The valve passage has an end through which the valve passage is fluidly connected to a probe passage. A valve seat is provided at the end of the valve passage. A valve sealing member forms a face seal against the valve seat by compressing a retained sealing member, such as an O-ring. The valve sealing member is moveable from a closed position to an open position, upon insertion of a probe to engage and displace the valve sealing member along the valve passage, such that the valve sealing member is spaced from the valve seat and allows fluid in the valve passage to flow to the probe passage for collection by the probe.
