Abstract: A method for the production of varnish, the method including the steps of: (a) continuously introducing resin, oil and a gelling agent into a mixing zone of an extruder; (b) heating the resin, oil, and gelling agent to a first elevated temperature in the mixing zone of the extruder; (c) mixing the resin, oil, and gelling agent in the mixing zone of the extruder for a first period sufficient to produce varnish; (d) continuously withdrawing the varnish from the mixing zone of the extruder; (e) continuously introducing the varnish into a holding zone; (f) maintaining the varnish at an elevated temperature in the holding zone for a second period, the second period being longer than the first period; and (g) continuously withdrawing the varnish from the holding zone.
