Abstract: Ethanol is produced by the simultaneous production of both First and Second generation (1G, 2G) fuel grade ethanol in the same production plant. A First Generation feedstock such as corn is continuously fed to the first generation section and a lignocellulosic feedstock such as corn stover from the 1G corn is supplied to the second generation area Thus, there is a common fermentation area for both the C5 and C6 sugar fermentation. The invention can economically be best implemented in places where there are incentives offered for the use of various feedstocks. Specifically, the invention allows the D3 rin to be maximized in an existing first-generation ethanol plant with the installation of the front end of the 2G equipment.
