  • Patent number: 5614201
Abstract: A cosmetic composition is provided which includes at least one keratolytic agent and a combination of water-soluble and water-insoluble anti-irritancy agents in a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier. Most effective is a combination of a C.sub.7 -C.sub.30 .beta.-hydroxy carboxylic acids such as salicylic acid with a C.sub.1 -C.sub.2 .alpha.-hydroxy carboxylic acid such as glycolic or lactic acids. The water-soluble anti-irritancy agent is preferably a salt of glycyrrhizinic acid. The water-insoluble anti-irritancy agent is preferably a-bisabolol, azulene or combinations thereof. • Patent number: 5610125
Abstract: A cosmetic composition is provided in the form of a gel exhibiting semi-solid behavior at rest but under slow shear rates fractures ceasing to act as a fluid and becoming a solid. The cosmetic composition achieves this rheology through a combination of an alkyl polyglycoside with a polyether ester.

  • Patent number: 5599532
Abstract: A hairspray composition is described that includes a nonionic polymer and an anionic polymer. The nonionic polymer is formed from monomers having at least one unneutralized carboxylic acid. The anionic polymer is identical to the nonionic one, except that all of the carboxylic acid groups are in salt form. Advantageously, the composition further includes an acrylic resin, most especially an amphoteric one. Best results are achieved when the acrylic resin is neutralized with a relatively small cation such as potassium and a second cation of a water soluble fatty amine. These compositions employ water as the carrier and dimethyl ether as propellant.

  • Patent number: 5593663
Abstract: Novel antiperspirant actives are amphiphilic materials which form, upon contact with perspiration, a water-insoluble liquid crystal phase of greater than one-dimensional periodicity, e.g. a cubic (three-dimensional periodicity) or hexagonal (two-dimensional periodicity) liquid crystal structure. Examples of such actives include lipids, surfactants, emulsifiers, polymer amphiphilic complexes and block copolymer surfactants which form the required liquid crystal phase upon contact with sweat. Preferably, antiperspirant compositions comprising the novel active(s) are free of conventional antiperspirant actives, especially aluminum and/or zirconium salts.

  • Patent number: 5582333
Abstract: A nail polish remover product is provided formed of a liquid nail polish remover composition and a dispenser for storing and delivering the composition. A volatile solvent such as acetone or ethyl acetate usually forms a significant portion of the composition. The dispenser will include a bottle and a cap. The bottle will have a mouth at an open end thereof which is provided with a coupling mechanism such as a male screw thread to lock the cap. The cap has a deck to cover the bottle mouth, a female screw thread to lockingly engage the thread around the mouth, a skirt surrounding the deck and a lid hingedly attached to the skirt. The deck is concave shaped with an aperture centered therein allowing dispensing of the composition from the bottle when the lid is in an open position but preventing dispensing when the lid is in a closed position.

  • Patent number: 5579957
Abstract: A dispensing package is provided with a container and a cap. The cap includes a mechanism to fittingly engage across an open end of the container, a top portion defined by a deck, a skirt wall surrounding the deck, at least one dispensing orifice formed in the deck, a locking aperture with a wide and a narrow area preferably in a T-shape, a lid hingedly attached to the deck, a flexible post projecting downwardly from the lid, and a release mechanism along the skirt. The flexible post has an enlarged section at an end thereof which can lockingly engage underneath landings that define wide and narrow areas of the locking aperture. A flexible area along the skirt can be pushed inward against the enlarged section of the post to dislodge same from underneath the landings thereby opening the lid.

  • Patent number: 5580550
Abstract: Cosmetic compositions comprising an emulsion, preferably an aqueous emulsion, including at least one cosmetic resin material, e.g. a hydrocarbon resin such as polyisobutylene, are made by direct emulsification of the resin without a solvent or carrier therefor. The direct emulsification may be achieved by a special mixing regime, with particular emulsifiers. The absence of solvent or carrier for the resin material avoids product thinning and gives several manufacturing and processing advantages.
