Patent number: 4950970Abstract: An improved induction motor control system. Single-phase and three-phase AC induction motors are controlled in accordance with the equation y=m=x+b, where y is the phase angle, m is the slop, x is the firing delay and b is the offset. Subsequently, the firing delay is increased by predetermined amounts, the behavior of the phase angle is evaluated for several cycles, and the motor is controlled based on the results of the evaluation, thereby minimizing energy consumption.Type: GrantFiled: March 14, 1986Date of Patent: August 21, 1990Assignee: Chesebrough-Pond's Inc.Inventors: Ray E. Patent number: 4915268Abstract: A container closure is provided with a body defining a dispensing orifice and a cover disposed on the body for being pivoted between a closed position occluding the orifice and an open position spaced away from the orifice. A hinge connects the cover to the body. The body has a generally smooth applicator surface around the dispensing orifice. The cover has an inwardly projecting sealing protrusion for entering at least partially into the dispensing orifice and sealingly engaging the body at the periphery of the dispensing orifice when the cover is in the closed position. The body and the cover together cooperate to define latching means, such as (1) an engagement between the protrusion and a portion of the body around at least part of the periphery of the orifice or (2) engaging ribs on the body and cover for releasably holding the cover in the closed position.Type: GrantFiled: November 2, 1988Date of Patent: April 10, 1990Assignees: Pittway Corporation, Chesebrough-Pond's Inc.Inventors: Dieter F. Lay, Michael H. Lombardi

Patent number: 4888140Abstract: The invention is a process for preparing round, fluid filled microcapsules by the simultaneous extrusion, of core and shell material from coaxially aligned and concentric extrusion nozzles into a surrounding carrier fluid moving in the direction of the extrusion wherein a surfactant having affinity with the carrier fluid is added to the carrier fluid. When the carrier fluid is an oil based carrier, a lipophilic emulsifier such as a sorbitan monoester of a fatty acid can be used.Type: GrantFiled: February 11, 1987Date of Patent: December 19, 1989Assignee: Chesebrough-Pond's Inc.Inventors: Herman W. Schlameus, Chel W. Lew, Donald M. Atkinson

Patent number: 4854484Abstract: A product dispenser for viscous products is described comprising a tubular container, a liquid pump dispenser, and a take-up piston which advances towards the pump dispenser as product is dispensed therethrough from the container. The take-up piston has a central depression to accommodate the lower portions of the housing of the pump dispenser when the piston reaches its uppermost location when the container is nearly fully evacuated of product. Transverse slots cut downwardly in the upper surface of the piston extend radially outwardly from the central depression to the sides of the piston to provide a means to bleed or vent off unwanted air entrapped in product which lies in the central depression.Type: GrantFiled: July 27, 1987Date of Patent: August 8, 1989Assignee: Chesebrough-Pond's Inc.Inventors: James L. Patent number: 4811900Abstract: A spray head is disclosed having an aligned fluid conduit leading respectively to a source of pressurized water and a spray outlet. A rotatable, vertically movable valve element lies in a suitable bore in the spray head between the conduits. The valve has a horizontal conduit therethrough which merges with a vertical conduit adapted to convey liquid from a container to which the spray head is connected. A frangible locking collar lies between the head of the valve and the upper surface of the spray head holding the valve from either rotational or vertical movement towards the container. Breaking and removal of the locking collar allows for 90.degree. rotation of the valve to unseat inwardly from flange carried by the valve body from inwardly projecting retaining flanges carried by the spray head body thereby allowing for downward movement of the valve to puncture a seal over the container holding the liquid.Type: GrantFiled: April 22, 1988Date of Patent: March 14, 1989Assignee: Chesebrough-Pond's Inc.Inventors: Joseph P.
