  • Patent number: 7637609
Abstract: The present invention relates to a hinge assembly for use with eyeglasses. In one embodiment, the present invention provides a hinge assembly to attach a temple to a main frame of a pair of eyeglasses. The hinge assembly of this embodiment may include a pair of hinge members (formed as a ball and socket) rotationally attached to one another and each resiliently attached (e.g., using a spring) to a respective one of the temple and the main frame of the pair of eyeglasses.

  • Patent number: 7384142
Abstract: A rimlock for use with an eyeglass frame is provided. The rimlock comprises a pair of flanges which protrude from the frame at a split therein. A spring is fed through a bore passing through the flanges whereby a portion of the spring internal to the rimlock at a widened portion of the bore is in tension thereby biasing the flanges into engagement allowing the frame to hold a lens in position within the frame. By pulling the flanges apart, the lens can be removed.

  • Patent number: 7380935
Abstract: A hinge assembly is provided for connecting the temple of an eyeglass to a lens support assembly. The hinge assembly comprises a cam member with a pair of oppositely directed cam surfaces disposed in orthogonal planes. The assembly also comprises a pair of pivots extending normal to respective ones of the planes and defining orthogonal pivot axes for relative movement between the cam member and the main frame and the temple respectively. The hinge has a pair of followers, each associated with a respective one of the cam surfaces; and a pair of biasing members acting on the followers to maintain the followers in contact with the cam surfaces. An eyeglass comprising the hinge assembly is also provided. The hinge assembly allows a compound movement between the main frame and the temple that can accommodate the abnormal loading that might be placed on the eyeglasses.

  • Patent number: 7175275
Abstract: A pair of spectacles includes a main frame having a magnetic bridge piece. An auxiliary inner frame is secured by a magnetic member to the bridge piece and an outer auxiliary lens is similarly secured by a magnet to the bridge piece and at lateral locations onto edges of the main frame. The auxiliary outer lens is secured by a magnetic button which is inserted through an aperture in the outer lens and has a magnetic member an a head which is sized to overly the aperture. The magnetic member embedded in the button attracts the magnetic bridge piece thereby attaching the button to the main frame, the head overlies the aperture and secures the outer frame to the main frame.

  • Patent number: 7033019
Abstract: An eyeglass device comprised of a primary eyeglass frame and an auxiliary eyeglass frame, each containing lenses therein. The primary eyeglass frame includes a bridge and earpieces, which are connected to extensions on each side of the frame. The bridge may made of a flexible memory alloy, such as NiTi or CuAlBe. The extensions have magnets mounted on the undersides of them. The auxiliary eyeglass frame also includes a bridge and temporal extensions. These extensions have magnets mounted to the tops of them. The magnets engage magnetically with each other to connect the auxiliary eyeglass frame to the primary eyeglass frame. The flexible bridges of the primary and auxiliary eyeglass frames assist in preventing the auxiliary eyeglass frame from becoming dislodged from the primary eyeglass frame in case it jostled by the wearer because they can withstand slight distortion.

  • Patent number: 7033018
Abstract: Eyeglasses comprise a pair of spectacles having primary lenses and an auxiliary lens assembly attached to the spectacles. The auxiliary lens assembly is secured by a subframe that includes at least one arm having a magnet at one end to co-operate with a magnet provided on the spectacles. A hinge is provided on the subframe at the opposite end of the arm to allow the auxiliary lens assembly to move from a position in which the primary lenses are covered to a position in which they are exposed.

  • Patent number: 6811254
Abstract: Eyeglasses comprise a primary frame and an auxiliary frame detachably secured to the primary frame by interaction of magnetic members on the frames. The frames and magnetic members are configured to maintain the frames in a first orientation in which the auxiliary frame overlies the primary frame and a second orientation in which the auxiliary frame is disposed above and away from the optical axis of lenses carried in the primary frame.
