    Abstract: Methods and apparatus for digital addition are disclosed in particular methods and apparatus for "carrying" in digital addition, and methods for designed carry circuits using circle and tally diagrams. A general method for creating and analyzing carry circuits is developed which not only permits the analysis of existing carry circuits such as those of the ripple-carry adder and the carry look-ahead adder; but also leads to new faster carry circuits.
