Publication number: 20110148742Abstract: A method for use in an imaging system having an image source and a plurality of microtile units for generating respective portions of the image is provided, each microtile unit including a self-contained screen and a rear projector for projecting the image on the screen, the method for at least one of self-aligning, colour matching and brightness matching the image portions across successive adjacent microtile units. The screen is over-scanned so that a portion of an edge of each image spills over onto a side wall of the microtile unit adjacent a further one of microtile units. Light from the image is permitted to spill through the side wall into the further microtile unit. The light is detected within the further microtile unit. The image is adjusted in response to detection of the light within the further microtile unit so as to at least one of align, color match and brightness match the image between the plurality of microtile units.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 28, 2011Publication date: June 23, 2011Applicant: Christie Digital Systems Canada, Inc.Inventors: Michael Perkins, Robert Rushby

Publication number: 20090002398Abstract: According to embodiments described in the specification, a method, and apparatus for scaling an image to produce a scaled image is described, the image comprising an array of image pixels, and the scaled image comprising an array of scaled pixels. In a first step a map is created between the array of scaled pixels and the array of image pixels. In a second step, an energy parameter of each image pixel in the array of image pixels is determined. In a third step, a fraction of a given image pixel which overlaps a given scaled pixel in the array of scaled pixels is determined for each image pixel, in the array of image pixels. In a final step the energy parameter of the given image pixel is distributed between scaled pixels which overlap the given image pixel, the distributing based on the fraction, such that the energy parameter is conserved.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 27, 2007Publication date: January 1, 2009Applicant: Christie Digital Systems Canada, Inc.Inventor: Lawrence Goerzen

Publication number: 20090002998Abstract: According to embodiments described in the specification, a reflective iris is described for concentrating collimated light emitted from a parabolic lamp, the parabolic lamp comprising a lamp aperture from which the collimated light is emitted. The reflective iris is comprised of a planar reflective element for reflecting the collimated light back towards the parabolic lamp, a shape of the planar reflective element being generally complementary to a shape of the lamp aperture; and an optical aperture through the planar reflective element, disposed around a perpendicular axis of the planar reflective element, for light to pass through the planar reflective element. When the reflective iris is axially aligned with the parabolic lamp, the collimated light is reflected from the planar reflective element back towards the parabolic lamp, for reflection back through the optical aperture.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 29, 2007Publication date: January 1, 2009Applicant: Christie Digital Systems Canada, Inc.Inventor: Joseph Ma
