  • Patent number: 5968607
Abstract: In order to achieve deposit of very complex embossed designs which require thick layers of inks or paints in sharply defined patterns on flexible sheet substrate material suitable for packaging and high-volume production, a new combination of production sheet-fed printing elements is disclosed. As the typical materials will be sheet material supplied on rollers, a continuous process of moving the material from a supply roller to a take-up roller through a series of application and curing steps is provided, including elements for the steps of thick-deposit of design print material, embossing or impressing the deposited material, curing the material and sealing or covering the print material, and taking up the imprinted material for further shaping or processing.

  • Patent number: 5946773
Abstract: A device for holding a frozen food product includes a handle which is formed with a gripper. The gripper is formed with at least one irregularity which conforms with the frozen food product to hold the frozen food product on the handle. Specifically for a substantially flat, elongated handle, the gripper can be indentations into the edge of the handle, a hole through the handle, or a combination of these irregularities. Additionally, the device includes a multi-color design which is affixed to the handle by a four-color process, and a protective layer which is made of a bio-compatible material that is attached to the handle to position the design between the handle and the protective layer. The device is die-cut from a sheet in an operation which simultaneously manufactures a plurality of the devices.

  • Patent number: 5802979
Abstract: A system and a method for producing displays such as signs and cards includes a substrate of material which is transferred from a supply roller to a first receiving unit. During the transfer, the substrate passes a series of color printing stations which applies a four-color image to the substrate, an opaque printing station which applies a layer of opaque ink to selected portions of the four-color image, a thick printing station which applies a pattern of viscous translucent ink to form extraordinarily thick ridges of translucent ink on the substrate. Finally, a metalized substance is applied to the substrate over the various ink layers using vapor metalization. As provided herein, the metalized substance is applied to the substrate during transfer of the substrate from the first receiving unit to a second receiving unit.

  • Patent number: 5724891
Abstract: A system and a method for producing displays such as signs and cards includes a continuous substrate of material which is passed from a supply roller to a take-up roller. A series of printing stations apply a four-color image to the substrate. A fifth printing station then applies a layer of opaque ink to selected portions of the four-color image. Subsequently, a rotating silk screen applies a pattern of viscous translucent ink to form extraordinarily thick ridges on selected portions of the four-color image and opaque ink layer. Finally, a metalized substrate is laminated to the plastic substrate over the various ink layers.

  • Patent number: 5716682
Abstract: A sign and a method for its manufacture include a lenticular split image which is process printed onto the second surface of a lenticular lens layer. Additionally, selected portions of the image are masked by a lenticular split covering, and a reflective layer is mounted against the lenticular lens layer, with the image and the covering therebetween. This gives a shiny appearance to the unmasked portions of the image and gives a flat appearance to the masked portions of the image. The lenticular split image and the lenticular split covering each respectively include a plurality of separate images and a plurality of separate aspects which include a plurality of strips. In order to obtain a 3-D effect for the sign, the plurality of lenses in the lenticular lens layer are aligned in register with the corresponding juxtaposed strips of both the lenticular split image and the lenticular split covering.

  • Patent number: 5713148
Abstract: A frame for holding a picture includes a die cut border formed with an aperture and a substantially flat flexible plastic envelope formed with a pocket. The picture is insertable into the pocket of the envelope, and the envelope is attached to the border for presenting the picture through the aperture. A brace is selectively attachable to the border to hold the frame in a desired orientation for viewing the picture. Alternatively, the envelope may be formed between a recessed portion of a rigid base and a transparent sheet attached over the recess and the brace may be removeably attachable to the base member and further be configured to be attachable to the base member in more than one predetermined orientation.
