  • Patent number: 5583094
Abstract: A tubular metal pipe and a solidified melt of a precursor of oxide superconducting material which is placed in contact with the metal pipe are subjected to heat treatment in an oxidizing atmosphere and at a temperature above the partial fusion temperature of the solidified melt to oxidize the metal pipe from its inside and outside and, as the oxidation proceeds, a melt of the solidified melt is effused through the tubular metal oxide layer to form a superconducting layer on its surface. This makes it possible to easily obtain a hollow oxide superconductor wherein a superconducting material layer is formed outside the metal oxide layer.

  • Patent number: 5394432
Abstract: A plurality of segments 12 respectively formed of an electrically insulated conductive material such as copper or the like are disposed inside an induction coil 1 in the peripheral direction of the induction coil 1 to thereby construct a crucible 3. There is formed a small cylindrical hole 4 in the center of the bottom portion of the crucible 3. A magnetic flux is allowed to enter the crucible 3 from slits 15 respectively formed between the hole 4 and segments 12 and is then interlinked with an object to be heated. The slits 15 respectively defined by mutually adjoining segments 12 are arranged such that the width of the bottom portion thereof is greater than that of the cylindrical portion thereof. When the width of the slit in the bottom portion is increased, then a leakage flux to the crucible is increased which in turn increases a levitation force F.

  • Patent number: 5282429
Abstract: In a coal-fired boiler, a heat recovery unit is located upstream of a dry electrostatic precipitator so as to reduce the temperature of exhaust gas flowing to the dry electrostatic precipitator and thus prevent reverse ionization in the electrostatic precipitator. The heat recovery unit located upstream of the dry electrostatic precipitator will in no way be corroded even if the concentration of dust is reduced in the dry electrostatic precipitator. A desulfurization unit does not require a cooling/dust removing section and eliminates the need for a wet electrostatic precipitator. The dry electrostatic precipitator includes a gas passage divided into a plurality of parallel passages and dampers operable to close the passages. This arrangement prevents dust from being dispersed as a result of hammering without charge.

  • Patent number: 5172757
Abstract: A method for removing soot or the like adhered to heat transfer tubes of a heat-exchanger by providing a steel ball scatterer above the heat transfer tubes and intermittently scattering steel balls towards the heat transfer tubes, is improved. The improvements reside in that a steel ball scattering rate is set to a small initial rate at the commencement of the scattering operation and thereafter is increased either in a stepwise manner or continuously. Preferably, within a main body casing of the heat-exchanger, a plurality of steel ball collision preventing plates having their central portions extending convexly upwards are provided between the steel ball scatterer and the heat transfer tube group, in order to prevent fins of the heat transfer tubes from being damaged by steel balls falling from the steel ball scatterer and directly colliding against the fins.

  • Patent number: 5006689
Abstract: A hot water boiling apparatus includes a hot water storage tank. The storage tank has an inner tank storing water therein, an outer tank surrounding the inner tank, and a vacuum heat insulation layer defined between the inner and outer tanks and surrounding the inner tank. An electrically heated bubble pump unit is arranged outside the storage tank and used for drawing water from the inner tank through a water supply port formed at the bottom of the inner tank and, after heating the water, supplying it into the inner tank through a hot water supply port formed at the top of the inner tank. First and second connecting pipe respectively connect the bubble pump unit to the top and bottom water supply ports of the inner tank. The portions of the connecting pipes extending through the vacuum insulation space are oriented horizontally to minimize convection heat losses. The portion of the connecting pipe which passes through the vacuum heat insulation space is oriented horizontally.

  • Patent number: 4785405
Abstract: The power system stabilizer is provided at an individual power system to be separated due to an accident cutting off a link line which interconnects a number of power systems to form a large-scale power system. The power systems include power stations such as power plants and transformer substations. A simplified arithmetic processing unit of the stabilizer performs an arithmetic processing by a simple linear equation using an output frequency of a representative power station belonging to the separated power system immediately after the accident has been cleared, so that a total load drop of the separated power system can be assumed. Based on the assumption amount, balance control of demand and supply in the separated system is made.
