Abstract: An actuator assembly and packaging feature for an electric toothbrush is disclosed. The actuator assembly includes a positionable member accessible along the outer surface of the toothbrush body. The actuator assembly further includes a spring member retained within the interior of the toothbrush body which urges a cam member against the underside of the positionable member. The positionable member defines an aperture extending through its midsection within which is disposed a depressible member. The depressible member has an outer end which is also accessible along the outer surface of the toothbrush body. Upon pressing the depressible member, the cam member and spring are urged against an electrical circuit provided within the body of the toothbrush which is used to selectively operate a motor and drive mechanism to move one or more sets of bristles.
Abstract: A method of producing sodium bicarbonate having a high degree of purity and obtaining a net reduction in effluent waste water, as compared to prior processes, when starting from trona ore is disclosed. The process entails utilizing the waste-water effluent stream from the conversion of trona ore to sodium carbonate as the feed for the conversion of sodium carbonate to sodium bicarbonate.
Abstract: A container for storing cleaning pads which includes as part of the lid, a used cleaning pad storage area in which a used cleaning pad may be stored between uses. A packaging system for the container having an anti-tampering feature is also provided.
Abstract: An electric toothbrush comprises a body portion and a head including a motor, a moving portion, a handle, and a gear arrangement between the moving portion and the motor. The moving portion rotates, oscillates and/or reciprocates about an axis normal to a longitudinal axis of the head. The moving portion can include stiff bristles and massaging tips and the static portion can include soft bristles and massaging tips. The body portion houses the motor. A switch is operatively connected to the motor to provide momentary or continuous operation of the toothbrush. In one embodiment the gear arrangement includes a shaft, a worm gear and a pair of step gears. In another embodiment the gear arrangement includes a plurality of gears and at least one swivel arm for drive the moving portion in a rotating, oscillating or reciprocating manner.

Abstract: An improved housing for an electric toothbrush is disclosed. The improved housing provides two symmetrically positioned gripping members which assist the user in grasping the toothbrush particularly during brushing. Each of the gripping members includes a recessed gripping region having particular dimensional characteristics. The two gripping members are symmetrically arranged on the rearward sides of the toothbrush so that the brush may be used by both left-handed and right-handed individuals. A third gripping member may also be provided along the housing of the toothbrush.

Abstract: An electric toothbrush is provided. The electric toothbrush includes a handle having a motor disposed therein, a head having a longitudinal axis, and a neck disposed between the handle and the head. First and second bristle holders are associated with the head. The first bristle holder oscillates or rotates. The second bristle holder is reciprocates in generally the same direction as the longitudinal axis of the head but does not rotate or oscillate. The motor is operatively connected to the first and second bristle holders.

Abstract: A slurry comprising (a) sodium bicarbonate, (b) sodium chloride, and (c) water, in a weight ratio of (a)/(b) of about 2.5:1 to about 3.5:1, wherein upon further dilution of said slurry with additional water, the amount of sodium bicarbonate and sodium chloride which dissolves into said additional water is in the same ratio as said of (a)/(b) in said slurry before said additional dilution.
Abstract: In dentifrices containing sodium bicarbonate and anionic species which can react with sodium and water to precipitate hydrated crystals, the ratio of water to humectants, abrasives, and/or thickeners is adjusted so that the dentifrice has a water activity of no greater than 0.60 so as to greatly reduce the salting out of the anionic species.

Abstract: A condom having a first lubricating composition containing a male genitalia desensitizing agent on the inside surface thereof and a second lubricating composition on the outside surface thereof. The first lubricating composition has a higher viscosity than the second lubricating composition so that the first lubricating composition remains on the inside surface of the condom during packaging, shipping, storage, and use.

Abstract: The present invention relates to plural compartment assemblies in which materials are stored in at least two separate compartments until the compartments are opened for use. More particularly, the invention relates to a dispensing tube whereby the utilization of a novel insert, a conventional dispensing tube can be divided into separate and discrete compartments at a low capital cost. The resulting dispensing assembly provides for dispensing more than one material from the same tube and even more particularly co-dispensing predetermined proportions of incompatible materials simultaneously and effectively.

Abstract: The invention provides an improved test cell for detecting the presence of an analyte in a liquid sample. The device has an elongate casing defining a liquid sample inlet, a reservoir volume, a test volume, and a window through the casing at the test volume. Disposed within the cell is a sample absorbent, a novel biphasic substrate and a reservoir, together capable of transporting an aqueous solution within the casing along a flow path extending from the sample inlet through the test volume and into the reservoir volume. The invention further comprises a method for detecting the presence of an analyte in a liquid sample using the device and a biphasic chromatographic material for carrying out the method.
