Abstract: Coating oil compositions are provided which contain an oil-soluble metal petroleum sulfonate, an oxidate ester, an organic acid ester, and a hydrocarbon oil. The coating oils are highly effective for preventing rust and corrosion of both ferrous and non-ferrous metals but are particularly advantageous for application to metal sheet which is subsequently to be electrocoated. Coating oils formulated in accordance with the present invention exhibit improved electrocoat compatibility.

Abstract: Improved sulfurized metalworking lubricants derived from natural fats and oils which are modified by reacting the natural fat or oil with a hindered polyol and a dicarboxylic acid are provided. Also disclosed are sulfurized blends of said modified fats and oils with fatty acid esters and lubricant compositions useful for a variety of metalworking applications wherein the sulfurized modified triglycerides or sulfurized blends are combined with other lubricating agents, emulsifiers and additives.
Abstract: Improved metalworking lubricants derived from natural fats and oils and obtained by reacting the natural fat or oil with a hindered polyol and a dicarboxylic acid are provided. These lubricants may be chlorinated, sulfurized or chlorosulfurized. Also disclosed are compositions useful for a variety of metalworking applications wherein the modified triglyceride is blended with conventional triglycerides and/or hydrocarbon oils and which may additionally contain emulsifiers and additives.
Abstract: Improved multi-purpose metal cleaning compositions are provided comprised of 5 to 40 parts by weight ethoxylated aliphatic alcohol or ethoxylated alkylphenol, 4 to 20 parts by weight alkanolamine salt of a fatty acid, 2 to 15 parts by weight boramide, 2 to 15 parts by weight alcohol, glycol or ether glycol, 0.05 to 2.5 parts by weight antifoam agent, and 5 to 98 parts by weight water. In addition to being highly effective cleaners for the removal of grease, oil, dirt, scale and metal fines, the compositions of this invention also provide a non-sticky and non-greasy corrosion-resistant protective barrier on the surface of the metal.
Abstract: Useful oil compositions for coating ferrous and non-ferrous metals are provided. The coating oils are blends of a petroleum sulfonate, polymeric fatty acid and hydrocarbon oil.
Abstract: A water-based coating composition which upon drying prevents rust and corrosion on metal surfaces, but does not leave a waxy film upon the coated article. The coating composition is a mixture of a monovalent metal or amine, salt of a sulfonic acid, a polybasic fatty acid, an alkanolamide, a water soluble ether and water. The coating oil is a substitute for hydrocarbon-based coating oils and provides the rust protection and corrosion resistance of a hydrocarbon-based coating oil but does not cause a waxy buildup. This water-based coating is also more biodegradable and substantially safer than a hydrocarbon-based system.
Abstract: This invention relates to water active metalworking lubricant compositions, particularly for the cold rolling of aluminum and other sensitive non-ferrous metals and alloys. Water emulsions or solutions of the lubricant composition provide good lubricity and anti-wear properties and furthermore, prevent water staining of aluminum. The water active lubricant composition contains (a) an alkanolamine salt of a C.sub.36 dimer or C.sub.54 trimer acid, (b) an aliphatic monoalcohol or monocarboxylic acid and (c) an alkyl ester of a fatty acid.
